Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 489

Ivy was acting far too normal.

If she had cried her eyes out or had a hysterical breakdown, Grace would have actually been relieved.

But now, she was acting as if nothing had happened.

It was like watching someone who was seriously injured but felt no pain.

“Alright, alright, let’s eat first,” Grace said, trying to suppress her anxiety. “It’s been a long day, and everyone must be hungry.”

The dinner was lavish.

The Clarke family’s chef had specially prepared several of Ivy’s favorite dishes.

At the table, the elder Mrs. Clarke and Marianne kept putting food on Ivy’s plate.

“Eat more, look how thin you are.”

“This fish is very fresh, and all the bones have been removed.”

Ivy accepted everything offered to her.

She mechanically opened her mouth, chewed, and swallowed.

“Is it good?” Marianne asked expectantly.

“Delicious.” Ivy put down her utensils, wiped her mouth with a napkin, and said with a smile, “This is the best meal I’ve ever had.”

Her tone was so sincere it was heartbreaking.

Grace looked at her spotless bowl and felt her throat tighten, unable to swallow another bite.

After dinner, they all sat in the living room and talked for a while.

It was mostly the elder Mrs. Clarke telling embarrassing stories from Damien’s childhood, trying to lighten the mood.

Ivy listened quietly the whole time, even laughing along at the right moments.

Her docile demeanor was that of a perfect houseguest.

“Grandma, Mrs. Clarke, I think I’ll go rest now,” Ivy said, standing up apologetically. “I’m really exhausted today.”

“Yes, yes, go get some rest,” the elder Mrs. Clarke waved her off. “Grace, Gianna and her great-grandmother will stay with me. You should stay here and keep Ivy company for a couple of days.”

“There’s no need.”

Ivy shook her head and looked at Grace. “Grace, I’d like to be alone for a while. Is that okay?”

The words Grace was about to say died in her throat.

“Okay,” she forced a smile. “Then get some rest. Call me if you need anything. I’ll be staying in the room next to yours tonight.”
