Lilian’s sudden act caught Grace off guard.

A sense of unease rose within her.-

The next second, Lucian Hart’s furious voice echoed through the hall.

“Grace, what are you doing!”

Lucian strode forward, shoved Grace aside with considerable force, and then carefully helped Lilian to her feet, his movements as gentle as if he were handling a priceless treasure.

Grace’s frail body couldn't withstand such a violent push. She stumbled backward uncontrollably, lost her footing, and tumbled down the stairs.

Pain shot through her entire body. It felt like every bone was about to break.

Her forehead slammed hard against the floor, and blood immediately began to flow, trickling into her eyes.

Grace’s trembling hands hovered in the air, wanting to rub her eyes but hesitating, afraid of causing more damage.

“Lucian...” Lilian, like a wounded little rabbit, spoke with a tremor in her voice. “Don’t blame Grace. It’s all my fault. I’m so sorry. I didn't want to get hurt, I just wanted to show my concern for her.”

“But even if she hits me or yells at me, I should just take it.”

Lucian had a fiery temper, and her words sent him into a rage.

“You did nothing wrong,” he said, comforting Lilian gently before glaring viciously at Grace. “It’s that venomous woman Grace who’s at fault!”

Lucian stood at the top of the stairs, looking down on the miserable Grace.

“Lilian was kind enough to thank you, and you pushed her? How can you be so cruel!”

Grace struggled to open her eyes. Through the thick film of blood, she could just make out Lucian’s furious face.

In a daze, she remembered a time when Lucian had been injured in a boxing match. To help him recover faster and ease his pain, she had studied medicine day and night, even traveling to several cities to find a special remedy for him.

But now...

He fell for Lilian’s cheap trick and didn’t even flinch after pushing her down the stairs.

Grace’s body trembled, and her words came out broken. “I didn’t...”
