She stood up, quickly packed a bag, and limped out of the apartment.

Jarrow City.

Damien sat on his private jet, clutching a handkerchief that was already stained with a spot of red.

“Mr. Clarke, your health…” Felix stood beside him, his eyes red with anxiety. “The doctor said that if you keep pushing yourself like this, the infection in your lungs will…”

“It won’t kill me.”

Damien tossed the handkerchief into the trash, his gaze sinister. “Any news on Julian?”

“Yes,” Felix said, his expression serious. “He’s cunning. He’s using anti-tracking devices and constantly changing locations. However, Mr. Ashcombe’s team used the city-wide surveillance system to narrow down his approximate location to an abandoned chemical plant in the western suburbs.”

“The western suburbs chemical plant…” Damien narrowed his eyes, his fingers tapping unconsciously on the armrest. “That was the old Hart family factory, wasn’t it?”

“Yes. And…” Felix hesitated.

“Spit it out.”

“Our people have confirmed that Lilian… is also there.”

“Hah.” Damien let out a short, cold laugh, but there was no humor in his eyes. “It seems that despicable pair has been in cahoots for a while now. Lilian, you’ve really outdone yourself.”

“Mr. Clarke, Julian is requesting a video call,” Felix said, handing him a tablet.

Damien took a deep breath and adjusted his posture.

The video connected.

“If I see a single cop, or if you bring bodyguards…” Julian swiped the dagger through the air. “I’ll start by cutting off one of the old lady’s fingers for fun!”

“Fine,” Damien agreed without hesitation. “See you in two hours.”

After ending the call, Damien was seized by a violent coughing fit, so severe it felt like he was trying to cough up his own organs.

“Mr. Clarke!”

“Get the car ready,” Damien said, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, his eyes resolute. “And tell Elliot not to make any rash moves. He must wait for my signal. Julian definitely has a backup plan. We can’t push him too far.”

“But it’s too dangerous for you to go alone!”

“This is what I owe her.”

Damien looked out the window at the dark night sky and murmured, “As long as I can protect the one she cares about, even if it costs me my life, it’ll be worth it.”
