Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 299

Grace paused, then took the check from the professor's hand.

The number on it was enough to buy a small apartment in Evershade Marches; in fact, it was enough for her to live lavishly for several years.

"Anonymous?" Grace frowned. "Why?"

"Who knows!" Hans shrugged. "Maybe some rich eccentric who appreciates science. Oh, right, they only had one condition: that you focus on your research without any other worries. Grace, your talent is finally being recognized!"

Was her talent being recognized?

Grace looked at the check in her hand, but she felt nothing.

Once, she had presented her research—work that was still ahead of its time even now—to Ethan and the Hart family, only to be met with humiliation and accusations of plagiarism.

And now, in a foreign country, someone was willing to give her a hundred million dollars for a few pieces of paper?

"Thank you, Professor."

Grace put the check away.

Since it was anonymous, she would just consider it fate's way of compensating her for the hardship of her past.

Grace turned and walked toward her apartment.

She rented a place in a remote part of the city, an old attic.

It was cheap, but cold.

She didn't know that a hundred yards behind her, a car was parked.

The window was rolled down just a crack.

Damien stared greedily at her small, thin figure.

She had lost weight.

Her down jacket hung loosely on her frame.

And the way she walked... was her leg still hurting?

"Mr. Clarke, if you really want to see her, why don't you just go say hello?" The driver, a Verstein local, spoke in broken English. "You fly for over ten hours every weekend just to sit in this car for ten minutes before flying back. Your body can't take this."

Damien coughed twice, his face frighteningly pale.

He was holding a thermos filled with a bitter-smelling herbal tonic.

"No."

Damien's voice was soft, as if he were afraid the wind might carry it away. "I promised her I would never appear in front of her again."
