Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 294

Her whole life, it seemed, she was always being swept out the door.

The car headed toward the city outskirts.

It was a high-end wellness retreat, extremely private, owned by one of Grace’s high school classmates.

After getting her grandmother settled, Grace made an excuse to go buy some fruit and pulled Elliot aside at the end of the hallway.

“Elliot, I need to ask you for a favor.”

Grace took a bank card from her purse.

It was the “living expenses” Damien had given her. She hadn't touched a cent, but now, she had to.

“There’s a million dollars in here. If it’s not enough, I’ll wire you the rest when I get settled.”

Elliot stared, not taking the card. “Where are you going?”

“Abroad.”

Grace looked at the bare trees outside the window, her voice soft, as if afraid of disturbing something. “My professor helped me get in touch with a research institute in Norveth. It’s not a core position, but… I want to go.”

Elliot grew anxious. “Now? If you leave, what are those people online going to say about you? Damien is still lying in a hospital bed, and you…”

“Elliot.”

Grace cut him off, turning to face him with calm eyes.

“Do you think I’m a jinx too?”

Elliot was at a loss for words. “Of course not…”

“Even I think I am.”

Grace laughed at herself, pointing at the news on her phone screen. “Look, even though Julian is the one slinging mud, everything he said is true. My mom died, my dad is ruined, my uncle is gone, Ethan went bankrupt, and now it’s Damien’s turn.”

“He went against his entire board of directors for me.”

“Now the Clarke family’s stock has plummeted, and people like Julian have the perfect excuse to oust him.”

“If I don’t leave, Damien will have to keep protecting me.”

“And every time he protects me, he bleeds.”

“I don’t want to see him die.”

Elliot was silent for a long time, but he didn’t try to persuade her anymore.

He was a police officer who believed in evidence, but he was also a man who understood the finality in Grace’s eyes.
