Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 276

"Mr. Clarke, why are you doing this?" Felix shook his head helplessly. "Aren't you afraid that once she finds out the truth, she'll end up hating you, too?"

"Hate?"

Damien suddenly laughed, his shoulders shaking, but a single tear escaped from the corner of his eye.

"Hate is good."

"Felix, you don't understand."

"Hate is still an emotion. As long as she hates me, I'll still have a place in her heart."

He turned his head to look at the glittering skyline of Jarrow City, a city of a million lights, but not a single one was for him.

"What I'm most afraid of isn't her hating me."

"I'm most afraid of her being polite to me, calling me 'Mr. Clarke,' telling me to 'have some self-respect.'"

"That look in her eyes… it's worse than death."

Damien took a deep breath, as if trying to inhale all his pain.

"So I'd rather she hate me."

"I'd rather she blame me for everything. I'd rather she stick a knife in my chest than watch her carry everything alone, pretending to be strong."

"She's only twenty-seven…"

"She should have been in my care, living as a carefree princess."

"It was me… it was the Clarke family that ruined her."

A sharp crack echoed through the room.

Damien had crushed the glass in his hand.

Blood mixed with liquor streamed down his hand, but he seemed to feel no pain, his eyes fixed on the photo.

"Felix."

"Yes, sir."

"Tell our people to start making trouble for Gavin Clarke tomorrow," Damien's voice was as cold as ice. "Keep him too busy to go after Grace. And that Lucian Hart… doesn't he like to get physical?"

"Find some people. Teach him some manners."

A chill ran down Felix's spine. He knew his boss was serious this time.

"Understood."

At that moment, Grace had returned to Ivy's apartment.

Ivy stared at the half-empty bottle of pills on the coffee table, a headache forming.

That was pain reliever, not candy.

"Grace, be straight with me."

Ivy placed her hand over Grace's as she reached for some documents, her eyes filled with worry. "Your leg, is it really going to be okay? I heard you hissing in pain last night. You didn't sleep at all, did you?"

Grace pulled her hand back and picked up a concealer stick, dabbing another layer over the dark circles under her eyes.

"I slept."

She lied without blinking. "For three hours."

Ivy rolled her eyes. "You call three hours of sleep? That's a nap! And are you really going to an interview today? Can't you just rest for a couple of days?"

"I can't."

Grace expertly applied her lipstick while looking in the mirror.

"Fine, but why of all places did you have to pick Silvergale Computing?" Ivy looked completely baffled. "That's a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Clarke family, specializing in chip development! And it's right next to the Clarke family headquarters! Aren't you afraid of running into Damien?"
