Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 245

Calder was a genuinely good worker.

The backyard plot, which was about a third of an acre, was like a toy in his hands. In no time, the soil was turned, soft, and level.

"Grace, how's this look?"

Calder wiped the sweat from his brow and grinned, revealing two rows of pearly white teeth.

His eyes were clear and guileless, carrying a rustic simplicity.

Grace handed him a glass of water.

"Thank you so much, Calder. If it weren't for you, this would have taken me all day."

Hearing her say his name sent a shiver down Calder's spine.

He took the glass and guzzled the water down in one go, not even tasting it.

"Heh, this is nothing."

"Next time you have any heavy lifting, just give me a holler."

"I'm usually over in the walnut grove on the front hill. I'll hear you if you shout."

Calder thumped his chest, making a promise.

Just then, Grandma came out of the house holding a plate of washed wild strawberries.

"Have some fruit, young man," she offered warmly.

Calder seemed a bit shy, wiping his hands before daring to take one.

"Thank you, Grandma."

"Grace, you have to peel these walnuts to eat them. They're sweetest when they're fresh."

To show off his "talent," Calder cracked open a green walnut with his bare hand.

Juice splattered everywhere.

Watching his rough, large hands, Grace was suddenly reminded of Damien's.

Damien's hands were beautiful.

His fingers were long, and his nails were always neatly trimmed.

"Grace? What are you thinking about?"

Calder waved a hand in front of her face.

Grace snapped back to reality and gave an embarrassed smile.

"It's… it's nothing."

To cover up her lapse, she picked up a piece of walnut and put it in her mouth.

The bitter skin gave way to a sweet aftertaste.

Wasn't life just like that?
