Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 18

That trust was more precious than any treasure.

And sharper than any blade, it pierced her straight through the heart.

Grace couldn’t hold it together any longer.

She lowered her head, not wanting anyone to see her vulnerability.

But tears streamed down her face nonetheless, falling silently onto the expensive, plush wool carpet, staining it with small, dark spots.

She didn’t make a sound.

She wasn’t trying to elicit sympathy or feign strength.

It was simply... all the grievance, frustration, anger, and despair that had been bottled up inside her for so long had finally found an outlet.

Felix stood by quietly. He didn’t interrupt, nor did he offer a tissue.

He knew what she needed wasn’t comfort, but release.

After a long while, Grace finally looked up, her eyes as red as a rabbit’s. Her voice was hoarse from crying.

She looked at Felix and, as if mustering all her strength, uttered one word.

“Okay.”

“I... accept.”

On the other side of the lab, in an observation room separated by one-way glass, Damien stood in silence. His tall, imposing figure was nearly one with the shadows.

He watched the screen, saw her thin, trembling shoulders, saw how she fought to hold back her sobs but failed as tears streamed down her face. A storm of heartache and fury churned in his deep, dark eyes.

He was relieved she had finally accepted his help.

He was enraged that those bastards had wounded the girl he had secretly treasured for years to such an extent.

They had made her so cautious, so wary, that even accepting a small act of kindness felt like walking on thin ice.

Ethan Ward.
