Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 170

“You all probably don’t know this, do you?”

“Just yesterday, the father and older brother of our glamorous Dr. Hart showed up at the Clarke family’s front gate, demanding money!”

An uproar went through the crowd.

Guests exchanged glances and began to whisper.

“Is that true? I thought the Harts were a family of scholars. Why would they do something like that?”

“I heard something about it, too. Apparently, the Hart family is on the verge of bankruptcy and borrowing money from everyone.”

Marianne continued smugly:

“The state they were in… tsk tsk, it was truly pitiful.”

“They asked for fifty million dollars right off the bat. Said Dr. Hart had disowned them and threatened to protest with banners if we didn’t pay.”

“I just don’t get it. If Dr. Hart is so brilliant, why can’t she spare some money to support her own father? Why force the poor old man to come begging at our door?”

Grace pressed her lips together, her body trembling uncontrollably.

Any mention of the Hart family, of those leeches, brought all her deeply buried fear and humiliation rushing back to the surface.

“Why are you so quiet now?”

Marianne pressed on, a vicious, triumphant smile on her face.

“Feeling guilty?”

“Oh, that’s right. There’s also your ex-husband, Ethan.”

Marianne covered her mouth theatrically, as if she’d just remembered a hilarious joke.

“I heard you slaved away for the Ward family for five years, and in the end, you left with nothing?”

“That’s bad enough, but now I hear your ex-husband is drowning in debt, and some of his creditors can’t find him, so they’ve started calling us?”

“The Clarke family is a respected house, not a junkyard!”

“Why should we have to clean up the mess for every stray dog you’ve been involved with?”

Grace forced herself to stand tall, refusing to collapse in front of them.

But the scar on her back began to throb with a phantom pain.

It was from when Lucian had pushed her down all those years ago.

It was just like back then.

Everyone had blamed her, saying she was thoughtless, that she had made her brother angry.

No one cared if she was hurt.
