Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 160

With that, she tried to walk around Veronica.

"Stop!"

Veronica lunged, grabbing for Grace in a rage.

Grace sidestepped neatly.

Veronica stumbled forward, nearly taking a nasty fall.

"How dare you dodge me?!"

Veronica steadied herself, her face contorted with anger.

"Mrs. Clarke promised me that if I can get rid of you, the position of the young mistress of the Clarke family is mine!"

She pulled a checkbook from her bag, scribbled a series of zeros, and slapped the check down on a nearby shoe cabinet.

"Here's five million."

"Take the money, get out of Jarrow City, and never show your face to Damien again!"

Grace looked at the flimsy piece of paper.

Suddenly, she smiled.

This scene was all too familiar.

Years ago, the old Mrs. Ward had done the same thing, throwing a check at her and telling her to make way for Lilian.

Back then, she had been foolish enough to believe that true feelings couldn't be measured in money, so she had torn up the check.

Her reward was being dragged to an operating table by Ethan.

Now, she still believed true feelings couldn't be measured in money.

But this money was no insult to her.

"Five million?"

Grace picked up the check and flicked it with her finger.

"Miss Hale, do you have any idea what Damien is worth right now?"

"Billions."

"And you're offering me five million to leave a man worth billions?"

"Are you underestimating Damien, or are you underestimating yourself?"

Veronica was stunned.

She hadn't expected this meek-looking woman to be so sharp-tongued.

"You! So it really is about the money!" Veronica shrieked, as if she had caught her red-handed.

"I knew you were a gold digger!"

Grace casually tossed the check back at Veronica's feet.

"I have money."
