Lorelei quickly grabbed the impulsive, furious Whitney and turned to Adrian. "Don't get worked up, handsome. We didn't mean any harm. It was just a little misunderstanding!"
Sara slung the backpack over her shoulder and grabbed Adrian's arm. "Ignore them. Let's go!"
Adrian swept a cold gaze over the two women before following Sara up the trail.
Once they were out of earshot, he finally asked, "What was the fight about?"
Sara let out a harsh scoff. "She was trying to drive a wedge between me and Norah. I've known her for an hour—why the hell would I trust her? It's so stupid it's infuriating!"
Adrian laughed. "You're pretty fierce!"
"Giving her even a second of politeness is just being cruel to myself," Sara retorted.
She glanced back at him. "You're not so bad yourself. You didn't even know what we were arguing about, but you came right over to back me up."
"Obviously. I always side with my people. I favor my friends over reason any day of the week!" Adrian adjusted the straps of his backpack. His tone was half-joking, and his stride was confident and striking as he climbed.
It was a flawed piece of logic, yet he managed to make it sound incredibly charismatic.
Sara gave him a thumbs-up. "I feel completely at ease leaving Norah in your hands!"
"Thanks for the endorsement. You're pretty great too, and thanks for defending Norah!"
After a brief round of mutual flattery and a few more jokes, their sour moods completely vanished, and they continued their trek upward.

Meanwhile, Norah and Gonzalez had already reached the designated meeting spot. Since it was one of the main attractions, the area was crowded with tourists. There was a glass skywalk and a high-altitude bungee jump nearby, while a rock-climbing competition on the opposite mountain had drawn a massive crowd of onlookers.
Norah stared intently at the bungee jumping platform. Catching her eager expression, Gonzalez asked, "Want to try?"
Seeing that most of the jumpers looked like they were plummeting to their deaths, Norah violently shook her head. "Forget it. I don't have a death wish!"
The smile on Gonzalez's lips widened. "When your leg is fully healed, I'll bring you back to experience it. It's not as terrifying as you think."
