Dylan's phone buzzed repeatedly, but he kept hanging up. Finally, Xavier spoke up. "Just answer it."
Dylan hesitated for a second before getting up to take the call.
Norah chuckled softly. "That was Leila calling, wasn't it?"
It was actually pretty obvious that Leila's feelings for Dylan were genuine; she was just incredibly scheming and selfish.
Xavier sat back, a piece of wild grass dangling from his lips, looking rugged and completely unfazed. "Everyone makes mistakes. It wasn't an unforgivable sin."
"You're very generous," Norah scoffed lightly, swinging her legs off the edge of the rock.
Xavier stared off into the distance, his gaze indifferent. "Dylan is the one dating her, not me. Why should I hold a grudge?"
Norah turned her bright eyes toward him. "What if it were you? Would you forgive her?"
Xavier's eyes darkened, his rough voice carrying a sharp edge of pride. "There is no such 'if'."
"True!" Norah nodded with a sweet smile. "I'd never betray you for a payout!"
Xavier frowned, looking at her with a mix of surprise and amusement. He let out a scoff. "You're getting bolder by the day."
Norah shot him a sideways glance, her ears burning slightly. Still, she felt he was right—some things were definitely getting easier to say out loud.
Dylan quickly returned, his expression caught between frustration and conflict. "Leila called to apologize. She said she just had a momentary lapse in judgment."
"So what did you tell her?" Norah asked.
"I told her I'm quitting my job in H City to move back to Bloomfield," Dylan replied. He grabbed a can of beer and took a massive gulp. "She said that as long as I don't break up with her, she's willing to move here with me."
Xavier nodded. "If you can't let her go, consider getting back together."
Dylan's face fell, and he continued drinking in silence.
Soon enough, Dylan was back to talking about his brother. Xavier pitched in, sharing stories from his training days with Tyrannosaurus, which Dylan eagerly absorbed.
