He turned on his heel to leave. Panic flared in Norah. She leaped up, chasing after him and grabbing his arm. "Why would you tell my mom?"

Adrian's eyes were bloodshot. He whipped around. "This isn't some middle school romance. Why shouldn't your parents know?"

"You are not telling her!" Norah dragged him back with all her strength.

Adrian grabbed her wrist, trying to pry her off. "Let go of me!"

"No! Adrian, what gives you the right to meddle in my life?"

"Your family knows you work for me. I am responsible for you!"

"Are you out of your mind? Your office isn't a daycare. You're my boss, not my guardian. My love life is none of your business!"

"As long as you're under me, I'm responsible for everything you do!"

"You're being completely unreasonable!"

"Who are you calling ignorant?" Norah snapped. Still gripping his arm, she kicked him squarely in the rear.

Adrian dodged clumsily, while also trying to make sure she didn't lose her balance and fall.

Norah froze, instantly dropping Adrian's arm and taking a step back.

Xavier walked right between them, heading straight for Coco. He crouched down and tossed the bones onto the ground.

Catching the scent, Circe leaped onto Xavier's shoulder, only to be promptly brushed off by his hand.

He used a fair amount of force, clearly annoyed. Thankfully, the kitten was nimble and landed perfectly on her feet without getting hurt.
