Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2947

Sylvia’s delicate brows and eyes were frosty with indifference. “We’ve already met. No need for a formal introduction. Is there something you wanted, Mrs. Winters?”

Mrs. Winters immediately frowned and switched to a regretful tone. “Sylvia, I’ve always liked you. It was Evelyn who tried to seduce Eugene and stirred up trouble between us, which is why there was a misunderstanding. It was all my fault—I wasn’t thinking clearly. Please, you must forgive me!”

Sylvia replied coolly, “The person you wanted to get to know was always ‘Ms. Quintin.’ This has nothing to do with any misunderstanding.”

Mrs. Winters’ face flushed and paled by turns, clearly embarrassed. “Yes, I was truly foolish. But Eugene did nothing wrong. He’s always tried to protect you. You can’t let someone else come between you and break you up. I’m apologizing to you, so please forgive Eugene as well.”

“I’ve already made things clear with Mr. Winters. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can speak with him,” Sylvia said, glancing at her watch. “I have other matters to attend to. I’ll be leaving now.”

“Sylvia, don’t go!” Mrs. Winters hurried after her, pulling a designer jewelry box from her purse and pushing it toward Sylvia. “This is a small token to make up for my past mistakes. Please, Sylvia, take it.”

“There’s no need.” Sylvia brushed aside Mrs. Winters’ hand, her expression flat as she stepped away and left.

Sylvia’s refusal was clean and decisive. Mrs. Winters stood frozen, both regretful and furious, knowing deep down that any hopes for a marriage alliance with the Quintin family were gone for good.

She returned home with an ashen face, growing angrier the more she thought about it, until all her resentment landed squarely on Evelyn.

But she certainly wasn’t going to let things end there. Mrs. Winters sent someone to fetch Evelyn and had her brought straight to the house.

Evelyn hadn’t returned to the Quintin home since the family gathering that day; she’d been staying in a hotel the last few days.

Old Mr. Quintin had tried to call her, but she didn’t dare answer.

The affection he had shown her filled the emptiness of growing up without a family’s love—it was the last warmth in her heart. Now that she had lost it, she didn’t dare return to the Quintin home. She was afraid to see the disappointment in Old Mr. Quintin’s eyes, afraid to witness his love turn to indifference.
