Evelyn had arrived together with Mrs. Winters.
After taking a quick look at Eugene’s condition, Mrs. Winters turned on Sylvia with fury. “You troublemaker! Can’t you just stay away from my son? Didn’t you already break up? Why are you still clinging to him?”
“Using your looks to seduce men wherever you go—have you no shame?”
Sylvia had no intention of arguing with someone like her in a hospital and turned to leave.
But Mrs. Winters wouldn’t let it go. She hurried after Sylvia, grabbing her by the wrist and issuing a menacing warning. “Let me tell you, Eugene’s girlfriend is Evelyn. If you dare to stoop so low as to bother him again, you’ll regret it!”
“I’ll make sure everyone in J City knows how shameless you are—trying to steal someone else’s boyfriend. I’ll see to it that you can’t stay in this city!”
Evelyn stood silently behind Mrs. Winters, pretending to look at her phone. It was a nearby police officer who finally intervened, unable to stand it any longer. “Ma’am, if you have something to say, say it. But do not lay a hand on her. Please let the young lady go.”
Mrs. Winters refused to let go, scoffing at the officer. “She’s a tramp! A homewrecker!”
Sylvia frowned, grabbed Mrs. Winters’ wrist, and with a slight twist, forced Mrs. Winters to cry out in pain and struggle free.
“You want Evelyn as your daughter-in-law? That’s your business, and I wish you both well,” Sylvia said coldly, shaking off Mrs. Winters’ hand. “I put up with your insults not because I feel guilty, but because you’re simply laughable to me—not worth a single word.”
Mrs. Winters tried to lunge at Sylvia again, but a police officer stepped in, blocking her path and warning sharply, “Mrs. Winters, if you touch her again, I’ll have to arrest you for assault.”
Mrs. Winters snapped back, “On what grounds? She’s the one who got my son hurt. Why aren’t you arresting her?”
The officer tried to explain, “Mrs. Winters, according to the security footage we’ve reviewed, it was Ms. Jarvis who saved your son. If she hadn’t rushed in and pushed Mr. Winters out of the way, he would likely not have survived the accident—instead of just suffering minor injuries.”
Mrs. Winters gave a cold laugh. “You really think she’s that selfless? You’d better look into it. For all you know, Sylvia orchestrated this whole thing—hired that driver herself, just to make us grateful and worm her way into the Winters family. I’ve seen tricks like this before!”
