Nanette was a bit surprised. Manley had asked her out quite a few times already, but he never made a move or confessed any feelings. Now their relationship was kind of awkward. Was he finally going to make it official?
She blushed and started talking, sounding both sincere and a bit boastful like a teenage girl, "My dad once took me to a charity event, I saw Jonathan from afar. Just as people said, he was handsome and wealthy, but..."
She said, "Of course, in my heart Mr. Scott is better. If both of you pursued me, I would definitely choose you, Mr. Scott!"
Manley chuckled softly, stirring his tea as he mumbled to himself, "Anyone would know who to choose, except this silly girl."
"What?" Nanette asked.
"Nothing!" Manley leaned against the sofa, gazing lazily out of the window. His side profile was stunning.
Nanette couldn't help but feel her heart race and finally spoke up softly, "Mr. Scott..."
"Yeah?" Manley turned to look at her.
Nanette bit her lip, "Yesterday, my dad asked me what our relationship was?"
She couldn't help it, wanting to solidify their relationship. Manley kept initiating their dates and even took her to a dessert shop that girls would adore, he must like her, right?
Manley laughed, "What did you tell your dad?"
Nanette blushed, "I said... we're friends."
Manley nodded, "Yeah, we're just friends!"
Nanette stared at him blankly.
Manley chuckled softly, his tone gentle, "Didn't you say your mom doesn't want you to date right now? You're supposed to be a future star, and dating prematurely is taboo."
Nanette felt a bit disappointed but tried to console herself that Manley was just considering her wellbeing.
She forced a smile, "Yeah."
"Yes, Ms. Macclain donated her share of the dividends to the school project!" The store manager had been holding this secret in her heart for so long, wishing to tell everyone about their boss's deeds, but Estelle never allowed her to use that for marketing.
Manley felt a bit annoyed, but couldn’t help feeling compassion for her as well. She really was a fool!
Nanette cautiously asked, "Who is the shop's boss? Who is Ms. Macclain?"
"An idiot girl!"
Manley snapped, and turned to leave.
Nanette didn't know who Ms. Macclain was, but she could tell that even though Manley seemed angry, there was a special kind of affection in his tone.
At the 9th Mansion, when Charlie arrived, Carson and Andrew were already there.
There was a lady sitting next to Carson, the two laughing and chatting. Meanwhile, Charlie sat expressionlessly on the side, smoking.
