Fated Marriage Spoiled by My Ice Billionaire novel Chapter 40

Damian said, "Dad."

The call connected, only to be immediately hung up on the other end.

Damian let out a soft scoff, a slight, humorless smile touching his lips.

Isabelle hurriedly got up and left the bedroom.

After they both got ready, Damian had breakfast sent up. It was simple: regular sandwiches and steaming hot milk.

At half past eleven, after messaging Caroline, they finally set off.

They rented a car again, but this one felt a lot more comfortable than the last.

Just before getting in, Damian wandered off somewhere. Isabelle waited in the car for a full ten minutes.

When he returned, he was slightly out of breath. A wisp of cold air followed him as he shut the car door.

"Where did you go?" Isabelle didn't get it. He was in an unfamiliar place, couldn't understand the local dialect, and had just taken off without a word.

If he got himself into trouble, I'd feel terrible.

He pulled a packet of hand warmers from his coat pocket.

"Are you that cold?" Isabelle asked.

"For your stomach," he said, holding them out.

Isabelle didn't reply.

"Take them," he urged, pushing them forward with a look that was suddenly serious. "Or should I put it on for you?"

"My stomach doesn't hurt." Isabelle, her gloved hands reaching out, took the packet anyway. "Fine..."

Her periods had never been painful. Caroline had made sure she was well-nourished since she was little, which resulted in a heavy flow, but apart from some bloating, there was no real pain. She'd never used these things before.

Where did he learn this?

Still, Isabelle obediently placed one warm patch on her abdomen, under her second layer.

Caroline lived in a courtyard house in Fashionville, bought with a lifetime of savings. The 3229-square-foot yard was full of charm. Her close friends visited every year, especially Regina.

"Next time, don't run off on your own. Solvenia is generally safe, but not everyone is friendly," Isabelle said, looking ahead.

"Okay," he replied, a slight smile playing on his lips.

Damian didn't use the GPS. Isabelle only realized this when they arrived. He knew the route intimately.

He parked the car beside the courtyard. Warm sunlight streamed through the window as Damian unfastened her seatbelt.

"Put your coat on before you get out." Damian leaned over to the backseat to get the coat she'd taken off.

With the hand warmer on, Isabelle felt overly hot. She moved cautiously, afraid any sudden motion might make her period leak. After half an hour, she could tell her pad was almost too full to hold.

Only after she had her coat on and opened the passenger door did Damian open the driver's side.

"Mom! I'm back!" Isabelle called out as soon as she stepped out, heading for the courtyard.

Damian followed, carrying her bag.
