Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 823

"Remember that!" Old Mr. Blake snapped before turning on his heel and marching upstairs.

The elderly Mrs. Blake finished her meal in silence. She dabbed her mouth with a napkin, set it aside, and looked at Sebastian. "Sebastian... there will come a day when you deeply regret divorcing Lillian for this woman.

"We're older. We've seen more of the world, and we know how to read people. We have enough experience to know what Bella truly is. She..."

Mrs. Blake stopped herself. She realized there was no point in offering further critiques. Saying more wouldn't change anything. She merely let out a heavy sigh and followed her husband's path upstairs.

Sebastian was left completely alone in the grand dining room. He had only come to give them a simple update about the marriage license, yet they treated him as if he had committed treason.

The profound disappointment etched onto their faces cut into him like a blade. A suffocating wave of frustration washed over him. Was Bella really that despicable in their eyes?

He might not have been Mrs. Blake's biological son, but he was undeniably Old Mr. Blake's flesh and blood. Was it too much to ask for even a fraction of a blessing on his wedding day?

The coldness of the house chilled him to the bone. He didn't stay the night. He grabbed his coat and walked out into the dark.

Arthur Pendergast stepped into the upstairs study shortly after. "Sir, Madam, the young master has left."

Old Mr. Blake scoffed, his face flushed with anger. "Tell him not to come back. Just looking at him raises my blood pressure."

Mrs. Blake patted his arm soothingly. "Alright, alright, getting worked up won't fix anything. We couldn't stop him from marrying that woman, so let him do it. We've already barred her from entering our home, haven't we?"

"Who knows how much of a laughingstock we'll become," Old Mr. Blake muttered grimly. "Generations of the Blake family's pride, all thrown away in the mud."

His expression was dark. For a while, he had assumed Sebastian was wavering. Instead, the boy had drafted The Blake Pre-Nuptial Agreement and become utterly dead-set on the marriage.

They despised this union, but their hands were tied.

While the atmosphere at the Blake estate was suffocating, the mood over at the Mercer household was the exact opposite.

Despite the Mercer Group still being in a severely precarious financial state, everyone had left the office on time. They were all gathered at the family home, sitting around a lavish feast prepared by the staff, completely dedicated to celebrating Bella and Sebastian's marriage license appointment the following day.
