Whether Lillian's company was on the verge of bankruptcy or thriving was entirely at the mercy of internet chatter.
Its life or death was being fiercely debated in the comment sections.
Lillian was just relieved that Celia Bennett's involvement hadn't been exposed.
Celia's relatives had caused absolute chaos on Lillian's end, but ironically, that group couldn't care less about what was happening online.
Having checked into a luxury hotel, all they cared about was indulging in food and entertainment. It was a lifestyle they had never experienced before, and they were completely lost in the sheer luxury of it all.
Among them, a little girl who had just eaten her fill tugged on the sleeve of her mother, Emily Bennett. "Mom, can I go find Aunt Bella? I want to play with Aunt Bella, I..."
Before she could finish, a sharp slap landed across her face. "Dolores Turner, you ungrateful little brat! You have plenty of food and drink right here. Why do you want to find that Aunt Bella of yours when she doesn't even acknowledge us?"
The girl's eyes turned red, though she fought back her tears. "But Mom, you promised that once we came to the city and found Aunt Bella, you'd let me go to school."
Emily scoffed. "School? What's the use of going to school? Your Aunt Bella went to school, made something of herself, and she still works for somebody else!
"We never went to school, and look at us—eating well and living the high life right now.
"You really don't know how good you have it. I brought you to the big city to enjoy life, and you're crying about finding your Aunt Bella.
"What good is she? You have all these nice things right in front of you, and you still want her?"
Dolores couldn't hold it back anymore, her tears falling in heavy drops.
"But I want to go to school! Aunt Bella only became successful because she studied. I just want to be smart and successful like her."
Emily lost her patience and shoved the girl to the floor. Ignoring her, Emily went right back to stuffing her face and drinking.
