Warren stood frozen, his face shifting between shades of pale and green as she verbally dismantled him.

“I’m sorry,” he managed, forcing a tight-lipped smile. It was a sincere apology.

Juniper hopped off the cot, patting her pants. “Oh, please. I couldn’t possibly accept,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Warren winced again. In that moment, he finally understood where Celine got her fiery temper. Her sister’s was even worse.

“Juniper.” Shanley stepped forward, draping his jacket over her shoulders. His brow furrowed. “I’m sorry I’m late.”

“You’ve got good timing,” Juniper said, tilting her head up to give him a playful, pouty look. A small smile touched her lips.

She had come to Liberty Island with a two-part plan. The first was to tell Warren the truth herself. The second was to have Shanley do it. Both were designed to test his devotion to Celine.

Just one of their organizations, Subterra Vanguard or the Sigma Network, was enough to make powers around the world tremble. The two of them united was an unthinkable force. While Liberty Island was formidable, it was nothing compared to their combined might. She hadn’t expected that even after she revealed her identity as Specter, with Shanley himself backing her up, Warren wouldn’t back down. He had been willing to risk all of Liberty Island for Celine. That, at least, proved his feelings for her were genuine.

For that reason alone, Juniper decided to forgive him. For two seconds.

But only two. Locking her in a cell was one thing, but starving her? For two whole meals? Unforgivable!

“Let’s get you something to eat,” Shanley said, his voice soft as he gently caressed her face. “We can deal with everything else later.”

“Yes,” Warren quickly agreed, seizing the opportunity. “I’ll have the kitchen prepare something.”

Juniper’s delicate brows knitted together. As she walked past Warren, she shot him a withering glare.

The truth was too much for Warren to process. This wasn’t just a new sister-in-law; this was a high-maintenance little tyrant he had to appease!
