Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1147

Was the woman a walking radar? Once the final camera blinked off, Juniper finally turned around and pushed the door shut.

"Dr. Sommers, are you absolutely sure you don't want to chat?"

She pulled up a chair and sat directly across from her, her eyes soaking in every detail. Even though they shared blood, this was technically the "first time" Juniper was seeing her mother's real face.

Theia's eyes were currently closed, but her features were striking—delicate brows, high cheekbones, and skin that was pale and porcelain from years without sunlight. She wore no makeup, yet possessed a clean, elegant beauty that commanded the room. Sitting there in the dim lighting, she looked like a portrait of tragic grace.

Juniper found herself staring, completely entranced. Her mom was breathtaking.

"I have absolutely nothing to say to any of you," Theia finally spoke, refusing to open her eyes.

She was intimately aware of Corvus's agenda. As far as she was concerned, this so-called underworld boss was just another greedy parasite looking to profit off his twisted schemes. What could they possibly discuss? It would just be the same endless threats and bribes. She was too exhausted to even entertain it.

"Are you sure?" Juniper's lips curved upward, though her voice involuntarily wavered with a thick, choked emotion. She half-joked, "Open your eyes and look at me. I promise you won't be disappointed."

Before Theia could react, she dropped another bombshell. "I heard your husband is recovering nicely. He can finally tell the difference between a 2 and a 7."

Seeing the woman's eyelashes flutter, Juniper leaned in closer. "Actually… do you think he knows any other numbers by now?"

Theia's eyes flew open, locking onto the girl sitting in front of her. The face was entirely unfamiliar, but those eyes…

Theia's fingers curled into tight fists as she stared. Terrified this was just another psychological trap orchestrated by Corvus, the questions burned in her throat, but she didn't dare voice them.
