With most people, Troy wouldn’t have been concerned. But this was Draven-a man who could actually wield his influence and power to make good on his threats. Troy knew he had no real chance of taking the children back from Draven on his home turf, so he shifted his focus to keeping Ayla imprisoned instead.

Just as Draven had pointed out, Ayla was his weakness.

Troy needed leverage of his own.

After he hung up the phone, they drove for another five minutes in tense silence.

Suddenly, the piercing squeal of brakes shattered the stillness.

Everyone in the car jolted forward from the sudden stop. When Troy regained his composure, he looked up to see a black armored vehicle blocking their path.

He was almost certain Draven was inside. In that instant, Troy’s gaze turned razor-sharp, his fury directed like a blade at the other

car.

Without hesitation, he threw open the car door and stepped out.

Garrett followed close behind, and the line of bodyguards in tailored suits exited from the cars behind them. The air turned frigid, the atmosphere thick with tension.

Through the windshield, Troy spotted Draven seated in the back. The last time they’d met, Draven had stolen a kiss from Ayla right in front of him.

Troy still couldn’t stand the memory. His face had twisted in rage then. Now, Draven had taken his children. Troy should have been even more furious, but what he really wanted was to see something unfamiliar on Draven’s face-a trace of doubt or weakness.

All these years, he thought he knew Draven. But it wasn’t until Draven took the children and declared his intention to raise them himself that Troy truly saw the man for who he was. It was a chilling realization-he barely knew his own rival.

If you don’t know your enemy, you’re at risk. Troy had no idea where Draven’s limits lay, no way to predict what Draven might do next. That lack of understanding bred a deep, unsettling fear.

Draven had become a real threat. The feeling of being outmatched left Troy restless and unable to accept his own powerlessness.

He was desperate to confront Draven face-to-face, to see if this was real or just another act.

Draven stepped out of his car, his own entourage following. The two sides faced off, the tension mounting with every second.

Garrett let his rosary beads fall idle in his hand and put on a diplomatic smile. “Mr. Storm, it’s been a while.”

Draven, surprisingly composed, nodded politely to Garrett.

Even now, Draven had the composure to acknowledge someone irrelevant to the conflict. To Troy, that was just another infuriating show of defiance.

Troy’s face was cold, his jaw clenched. “Draven, I didn’t go through all this just to chat. Give me back my children, now!”

Draven’s eyes were dark and his presence icy. “Go home, Troy. I’m not giving them to you.”

Troy could no longer contain himself. “Draven, are you out of your damn mind? I’m not here to negotiate-I’m here to demand, and you have no choice! Floyd and Esme are my children, not yours. You have no right to raise them as your own. I’m their father. I’m not dead! Have you ever had any respect for me? How dare you treat me like this, mock me, insult me!”

Troy knew there were shameless people in the world, but how could Draven be one of them?

Draven was always reserved, capable, and serious. How had he become so unreasonable?

This wasn’t something a sane person would do!

After venting all his anger, Troy glared at Draven, locking eyes with the man he thought he knew better than anyone.
