A calculating smile spread across Maeve's lips.
"If we want to drag the real Nancy out of the shadows, we have to use this suspected fake as bait."
To avoid tipping off the enemy, Maeve decided not to make her move immediately.
She drove back to campus to sit through two afternoon lectures.
She slept soundly through both, finally waking up only when the dismissal bell rang.
Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she yawned and wandered out of the classroom in a daze.
The moment she stepped into the hall, she saw Elena rushing frantically toward her, clutching a massive stack of documents.
Maeve gave her a tired, listless wave.
Elena hadn't even noticed Maeve at first, but upon seeing her exit the classroom, she slammed on the brakes.
"Babe, can you do me a massive favor?"
Elena checked her watch, her expression brimming with sheer panic.
"A legendary legal expert is giving a lecture in the auditorium in exactly twenty minutes."
"But I have all these files that need to be delivered to the Central University Student Union right now. They are literally begging for them."
"Please, run this errand for me. I swear I owe you big time, I'll buy you dinner later."
Elena pressed her hands together in a desperate plea.
"Please, Maeve. This lecture is a once-in-a-lifetime deal. If I miss it today, I won't get another chance until next spring."
Maeve chuckled lightly.
"It's no big deal, hand them over. I drove today anyway, so it's a quick trip."
Elena practically wept with gratitude as she shoved the heavy folders into Maeve's arms.
Glancing at her watch in sheer terror, she shouted a quick goodbye and sprinted down the hall like her life depended on it.
Maeve knew that the various student unions across the universities were always collaborating.
Central University and Aethelburg University were the two most prestigious academic powerhouses in the city.
Not too long ago, the universities had co-hosted a massive intercollegiate sports meet to promote unity.
