As they talked, Andres received an urgent phone call.
Some matters weren't meant for Leonardo's ears, so he excused himself and stepped out of the room.
With him gone, only Leonardo and Maeve remained in the spacious living area.
"Miss Vance, there's something I've been meaning to ask, if you don't mind my directness."
She had been turning the mystery of Jaroen over in her head.
Catching his conspiratorial gaze, she sensed a deeper layer to his words.
She gestured for him to proceed.
"Do you have a grudge against the Grover Group?"
Fearing she might take it the wrong way, he quickly added, "I don't mean anything by it. I just want to make it clear that if you're planning to take on the Grover family, I will stand with you unconditionally."
That sparked her interest.
"You have bad blood with them?"
"It's no secret, so I don't mind sharing," he said. "Before my mother married my father, she was actually engaged to Thatcher Grover."
She immediately caught the scent of some serious high-society drama.
"Thatcher Grover, the father of the four Grover siblings?"
He nodded.
"Thatcher's current wife, Faye Grover, comes from a family with serious backing—not the kind you can easily mess with."
"Back then, she used some extremely underhanded methods to steal my mother's fiancé, and even after that, she constantly sabotaged my mother at every turn."
"Even after my mother married into The Salazar Family, Faye still treated her as a rival, targeting her relentlessly."
"Because of our parents' history, our two families have been at each other's throats for decades."
"While we have a solid foundation, going head-to-head with a titan like the Grover Group usually leaves us on the defensive."
"Since it seems we share the same goal, we might as well consider forming an alliance."
He glanced over at where Andres was still on the phone in the distance, lowering his voice slightly.
