Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 6

1908 was Andres's private territory.

He sat on the left side of the negotiation table, calm and handsome in the low light, sipping red wine like nothing in the world could rush him.

Three days ago, he'd learned he was married.

His father had died not long before. After the funeral, Andres began taking over the White family's business piece by piece.

When he signed the transfer documents, the family attorney handed him a manila envelope. Inside were two marriage certificates.

The attorney explained that while his father was alive, he'd already chosen a wife for Andres.

No one had asked Andres what he wanted. But with his father pulling strings, Andres's marriage—to a woman named Maeve—had somehow become legally binding.

On the right side of the table, Maeve rolled a custom pen between her fingers. Her mood was just as complicated as his.

Three days ago, an unexpected visitor had shown up at her place: Andres, holding those same marriage documents.

When he demanded to know why her name was on the other side of his marital status, Maeve had looked even more stunned than he did.

If Andres hadn't shown up at her door, she never would've known she'd been married a year ago.

Andres's gaze kept catching on the pen spinning between Maeve's fingers.

The motion was dazzling—too smooth, too practiced—and the pen itself was a strange design you didn't see in stores.

After watching for a moment, Andres finally flicked a glance at Hans. "Bring it out."

Hans pulled a folder from his briefcase and slid it across to Maeve.

"Ms. Vance. This is the divorce agreement between you and Mr. Andres. If everything looks fine, you can sign."

Maeve took it and flipped through.

In short: she was to keep her mouth shut about the marriage.

Under no circumstances was she to admit publicly that they'd ever been husband and wife.

As she read, one clause made her pause.
