Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 490

Audrey claimed he was just another terminal patient they had swept off the streets, but Maeve knew better. Lab C was ruthless; they never wasted resources on subjects devoid of research value. If 1152 wasn't incredibly special, he wouldn't have made it past the front gates.

The absolute proof was burned into his skin. When examining his vitals, Maeve had spotted a very specific brand scarred into his ankle. Back in the day, the Undying Project had tortured one hundred and forty test subjects. Every single one of them was branded with the letters BS followed by their designated number.

To Lab C, he was Subject 1152. But in the twisted legacy of the Undying Project, he was BS009. The poor bastard had spent his entire life being treated as nothing more than a fleshy petri dish.

Seeing the brilliant, obsessive light in Maeve's eyes brought a genuine smile to Andres's face. "So you're officially ditching me and our bed at Azure Bay tonight?"

"Yep," she replied without an ounce of guilt. "This fresh DNA might finally smash through my research plateau."

Andres didn't hesitate for a second. "I'm staying with you."

Maeve blinked in surprise. "I'm not a toddler, Andres. I don't need a chaperone to look at test tubes. Go home. I have no idea how long this will take. I probably won't sleep a wink before dawn."

His jaw set stubbornly. "I checked the forecast. There's a high chance of thunderstorms tonight."

"So what? The estate has an industrial walk-in freezer. If the thunder starts crashing, I can just hide in there." The freezer was the only windowless, soundproof room in The Quiet Garden. She was terrified of lightning, but she had a survival plan.

Andres hit her with a fatal dose of logic. "And what if a storm hits right when you're in the middle of a delicate chemical extraction? Are you just going to abandon your data?"
