Suppressing the absolute agony of parting with them, Quinn handed over the seven talismans.
Taking the papers, Maeve silently chanted a few words under her breath.
In the blink of an eye, the seven talismans burst into flames.
Maeve tossed the burning papers into the box and sighed with a look of deep compassion.
"Let go of your earthly attachments, take back your dark energy, and may you be reincarnated into a good home."
Whether it was the power of the talismans or simply the universe balancing the scales of karma, the moment the paper burned to ash, the sickening stench in the air seemed to slowly vanish.
Almost at the exact same moment, the ground suddenly caved in less than fifteen feet from the courtyard entrance.
Someone gasped, "Oh my god, was that an earthquake?"
Maeve flashed a sly, knowing smile.
"Nothing to do with an earthquake. The core of the broken mystic formation just revealed itself."
Sylvia was completely shocked. "Anyone who can plant a hidden core within a severed mystic formation is an absolute master."
Maeve nodded in agreement.
"Exactly. I knew right from the start that whoever set this up was no amateur."
"Otherwise, those seven poor animals wouldn't have been holding onto their dying grudges even after their bones were found."
"The fact that the dark energy wouldn't dissipate meant there was still a core hidden somewhere in the yard."
"As long as that core was still there, it would just keep dragging more bad energy back in to cause havoc."
Elijah finally realized what he had completely missed.
"No wonder we spent all that time working and the array didn't shift an inch. There was a hidden core anchoring it the whole time."
"Who is twisted enough to do something this completely sick? This is basically a direct attack on my master!"
Hans asked, looking confused, "Miss Vance's talismans already cleared out all the dark energy."
"And those animals have moved on. Does that mean the courtyard's energy is completely fixed now?"
Maeve glanced at him. "Once we dig up the core, everything will be solved."
She gestured toward Ian.
"Go check out the sinkhole and dig up whatever's buried in there."
