Quinn acted as if he had just noticed Elijah was even in the room, feigning exaggerated shock. "Whoa, you scared me. Since when were there other people here?"
The three disciples of The Luminary Order stood there, speechless.
Was their presence really so insignificant that they barely registered?
A hint of mockery flashed in Elijah's eyes. "Showing up uninvited to an event like this... I highly doubt 'enjoying the show' is your endgame."
Quinn shot back a defiant smirk. "And what if I just came for the popcorn?"
Elijah scowled. "When The Luminary Order is setting up a layout, we don't allow irrelevant outsiders to hang around and watch."
Quinn threw an arm casually around Maeve's shoulders. "Who said I'm an outsider? I'm with Maeve, your opponent."
Maeve fought the urge to smack his hand away. She looked between them with piqued curiosity. "You two know each other?"
Quinn stared at Elijah with a half-smile, while Elijah met his gaze with equal hostility.
Sylvia suddenly connected the dots. "You both have the last name Hayes. Elijah, is Mr. Hayes a relative of yours?"
Both men shot back in perfect unison, "No!"
The faster the denial, the bigger the lie.
Maeve's eyes gleamed with amusement as she looked back and forth between their faces. "Based on your bone structure, you two definitely share a bloodline."
"Quinn, I've known you all this time, and I never knew you had a brother."
She gestured toward Elijah with her chin. "Same parents? Half-brothers? You pick."
Only Maeve would dare to ask something so wildly blunt. Both men looked visibly repulsed by the question, while everyone else watched with bated breath, eager for the gossip to unfold.
Quinn was known in Aethelburg as the Young Master of The Mystic Realm.
