When NightKing arrived in Aleron City at the crack of dawn, the city was just starting to wake beneath a blanket of soft morning light, with a faint mist hanging over the horizon.
"Boss!"
Outside the slums, a long-awaiting subordinate quickly approached upon spotting his leader. Lowering his voice and casting wary glances around, he reported, "Crestonia's military has fortified all four exits of the slums. At our 10 o'clock, that's their lookout."
NightKing's gaze briefly swept in that direction, betraying no emotion as he inquired, "What's the situation inside?"
The subordinate relayed, "Last night was chaotic with many incidents, but what's clear is that Silent Wing has been found. He's currently staying at Hessa's place."
As NightKing strode into the neighborhood, his subordinate kept pace. "Does Hessa still listen to her?"
The "her" in question was obvious.
The subordinate nodded, "Yes, the... the Lady of Shadows blew up Hessa's drug lab. Hessa wouldn't dare disobey now."
NightKing paused, turning to his subordinate.
Feeling awkward, the subordinate explained, "Around here, we have to refer to her that way. Otherwise, we risk being treated as heretics. Just to be safe from eavesdroppers, I…"
NightKing resumed walking, asking, "She blew up Hessa's drug lab?"
"Just a bit, as a warning. They say she can make a bomb by hand in twenty minutes. Now, no one knows where she's placed bombs in the slums. Everyone's too scared to mess with her. The three big bosses can only follow her orders!"
NightKing chuckled but said nothing more.
Later, they entered a watch repair shop on the street. The subordinate quickly locked the door behind them and led the way to the basement.
There, a woman lay on the ground, barely alive, bloodied and bruised as if she were a discarded doll.
NightKing approached.
He nudged the woman's face with his shoe tip, revealing the well-known features of a Silverland spy, without a doubt.
The subordinate reported, "She's been involved in the disappearance of several military and political figures from other countries over the past month. Silent Wing was her target, but she met her match this time."
NightKing remained silent.
"The Crestonia military's scout team was quick, but they didn't capture her immediately. Silent Wing held her off for five days. They likely wanted to use her to uncover secrets. Unfortunately, the Lady of Shadows intervened, ruining their plans."
NightKing coolly replied, "No matter. Now that she's in our hands, we have the upper hand."
The subordinate agreed, and NightKing asked, "Has she been interrogated?"
"Not yet. She hasn't woken since we brought her here."
NightKing examined the woman's wounds, "Who shot her? The accuracy is impressive."
"Silent Wing."
NightKing scoffed, "Crestonians aren't known for their mercy. Was it also Silent Wing who caused these bone fractures?"
"No, that was the Lady of Shadows. She also dragged her by the hair and clawed at her."
The kid was so startled he plopped back onto the ground.
Eileen chuckled lightly, "You're the one who gave us the tip-off about the dangerous building yesterday, right?"
The kid blinked in confusion.
Eileen turned to Maloney, "Give him some cash."
Maloney quickly fished out a wad of bills and tossed them to the kid.
The boy clutched the money, a look of bewilderment on his face.
He looked up at Eileen, the new boss remembering him. But she didn't really remember him. If she did, she'd know that just two nights ago, when she first set foot in the slums, he had tried to attack her with a small knife... but she had forgotten.
Eileen glanced at the kid's relieved expression and chose not to say anything more, turning to leave.
But the boy swallowed hard and suddenly blurted out, "There's a suspicious man who entered a clock shop."
Eileen paused and turned back, "A suspicious man?"
The boy nodded, "Two went in, but one of them... he's dangerous."
Eileen raised an eyebrow, "How dangerous?"
The boy struggled to find the words, then managed, "As dangerous as you... You both seem like creatures from a horror movie, but he's the monster!"
