Ian was quick to shut the door, worried Maja might spit out more hurtful words.

He didn't want to be stung by her sharp tongue any longer.

After closing the door, he lingered for a bit, catching the staff asking Maja if she needed anything.

"Ms. Pennyfeather, would you like a midnight snack? The chef has whipped up some chicken soup. Good for the stomach."

Maja was about to decline, but the mention of chicken soup got her interested.

"Where do I eat it?"

"We'll bring it to your room."

She nodded, her stomach conveniently growling.

The staff smiled and asked, "Just a moment, please. The soup will be up shortly."

Ian stood quietly by the door until the voices died down, and he moved to the sofa.

The room was soundproofed, but he could still hear the sound of Maja's shower.

His heart was filled with tender feelings, and he couldn't help but picture her in bed.

He'd never craved someone so much.

After a shower, while still in his towel, he got a call from Judson from Silverstone Enterprises.

"Mr. Raymond, we've had a hiccup in the finance department. There's been a mix-up with the cost of some materials. I'd like to review it with you and Ms. Pennyfeather personally. I'll add us all to a group chat, if that's okay?"

This kind of screw-up was a big no-no for a company.

Judson was expecting Ian to lose his cool, but to his surprise, Ian agreed after a few seconds of silence.

Judson had always seen Ian as a tough nut to crack, so his easy agreement was unexpected.

After all, the renovations at Greenfield Gardens were done months ago. Discovering the issue now was a real blunder on Silverstone Enterprises' part.

Ian sat on the sofa, seeing himself added to a group chat, and there was Maja's profile picture.

He was her friend and knew what her profile picture looked like.

Maja and Judson both turned on their mics, and Judson started apologizing.

"Ms. Penny, I'm terribly sorry. One of our accountants has been caught fiddling with the books and has been taken away by the police. When we rechecked his records, we found discrepancies in the cost of Greenfield Gardens' renovations. I'm really sorry to bother you about this."

Maja was surprised that Silverstone Enterprises had such a scandal. Financial mishaps could bankrupt a company. Thankfully, they caught it in time.

She immediately pulled up the old invoices and went through each one with Judson.

Judson invited Ian to join just as a witness.

The renovation costs were Ian's responsibility. He had a right to know, especially since Silverstone Enterprises and the Raymond Corporation often collaborated.

Maja stiffened. Why did his voice sound so hoarse?

"I said, Mr. Judson has been asking you questions. Didn't you hear him? If you're not interested, you can leave the meeting."

Her tone suddenly turned rigid. Ian was silent for a while, then reached for a tissue.

He then unmuted his channel with Judson, saying, "Carry on, I'm listening."

Judson thought he'd accidentally upset him. Hearing his response, he quickly wiped his sweaty forehead.

"Mr. Raymond, I've gone over the accounts with Ms. Penny. We've overcharged you by twenty thousand dollars. We'll refund it to your account."

"Okay."

Ian heard them exchange polite words before they ended the call.

Ian turned off his computer, continued wiping his fingers with the tissue, and then heard a knock on his door.

He got up to open it and found Maja standing outside.

Maja had the staff print all the invoices from back then and say, "Mr. Raymond, you might want to double-check these with your finance department at the Raymond Corporation."

She looked up at him and saw a glint of satisfaction in his eyes, but more than that, anticipation.

Maja had been intimate with Ian many times. She knew that when he was aroused, the skin around his eyes would turn red, and he could say anything, just like he was now.
