Maja froze on the spot, then walked over to stand in front of Ian.

Ian, sitting in his chair, pulled her into his arms.

Maja's gaze swept over the cityscape through the floor-to-ceiling window, the setting sun casting a golden glow on the tallest clock tower.

After a while, Ian lifted her onto his marble office desk.

One hand cradling the back of her head, he kissed her passionately while his other hand busied itself unbuttoning her shirt.

Suddenly, the office door was thrown open. Ryan Elston barged in, his face livid.

"Ian... whoa!"

Ryan quickly spun around, covering his face with his hand.

Maja stiffened in surprise. Frantically, she began re-buttoning her shirt, her cheeks flushed.

She didn't look at Ian, nor did she dare to turn and look at Ryan.

Seeing a hallway leading to Ian's private office, she darted away, feeling like she was about to explode.

Ian resumed his seat, giving Ryan a cold stare.

Ryan had turned around by now. Although his hand was ostensibly covering his face, his fingers were spread apart. He was sneakily peeking through them.

Ian asked him in a flat tone, "What do you want?"

Ryan's gaze rested on the retreating Maja. "Ian, you and Penny just don't care about what people think, do you? How can you... in the office?"

"Get to the point."

Ryan couldn't continue, despite knowing about the special relationship between Ian and Penny. Kissing like that in the office was just not something Ian would do!

It took Ryan a while to compose himself before he could speak again.

"Grandma called Grandpa. She's causing a stir at the old house, demanding to know whether Eric is dead or not. The Raymond family is in chaos."

Ian knew that Edith was good at stirring things up, particularly when it came to Eric. Eric was Edith and Selena's main source of support.

If Eric could come back, they'd be ready to trade the whole Raymond family for him.

"I got it. I'll head back right away."

Ryan thought for a moment, then added, "Ian, hurry up. I'll wait for you outside. We can go back together."

Only when the door to the room was closed did Ian get up and head for his private office.

There, Maja sat on the sofa, her face still flushed.

Ian walked over, undid two misaligned buttons on her shirt and fastened them correctly.

Her face was still red. After all, she'd been caught by Ryan in a rather compromising situation.

"Organize my schedule for the next two months. Jeff will come by later to tell you what a secretary should do."

Seeing Ian's nonchalant demeanour, Maja knew he wasn't embarrassed by what had just happened.

Once he left, Jeff indeed showed up, but he didn't enter the private office.

Maja came out, and Jeff thoroughly briefed her on the schedule.

"You have to wake up the boss in the morning, accompany him for social events, manage his relationships with various partners, and act as his driver."

Maja took notes, then heard him add, "Ms. Penny, if there's anything you don't understand, feel free to ask me. I'll be at the Raymond Corporation for a while, so that I won't be around the boss."

He seemed to remember something else and added, "If the boss gets angry, try to calm him down with soft words. Don't argue with him."

Maja nodded and reorganized the documents.

However, her presence had already sparked chatter in the office.

Everyone asked how Penny had suddenly become the chief secretary and why she was always with the boss.

"Did you guys hear? She pushed Carlene out."

"Really?"

If he were that sensitive, growing up in a biased family would probably have given him psychological issues long ago.

After sending Edith and Selena away, he spoke with Holden.

Holden's condition was getting worse. He kept sighing.

When Ian came out, he spotted the familiar car right away.

He opened the car door, and seeing the beautiful face on the driver's seat, the chill instantly vanished, and his tone lightened up.

"Could you give me a lift to the hotel?"

After saying that, he leaned into the car window and kissed on the corner of her lips.

Right then, he heard Holden's voice from behind.

"You cheeky little bastard, who the hell are you smooching?!"

Immediately, Ian shielded Maja's entire body behind him and turned around to say to Holden, "Grandpa."

Holden, holding his cane, looked like he was about to strike, but he had just been angry once over Edith and Selena's matters.

Holden started coughing violently, looking like he was about to cough up blood.

Scared, Maja was about to open the car door to check on him, but Ian cautioned her.

"Drive the car a little farther away and wait for me there."

Maja opened her mouth wide, but she eventually did as he said.

After moving about a hundred meters away, she could still hear the noise at the entrance of the Raymond family's old mansion.

Holden raised his cane and whacked it hard on Ian's back.

"You lot! You know how to piss me off! And you even brought a woman back to the old mansion, and you're such a jerk!"
