"Grandpa, I've got some stuff to deal with in Crystalbrook Valley."

The old man's gaze sharpened instantly.

"What's got you running off to that place so often? Let me guess, you've picked up some new chicks there, haven't you?"

Ian felt a knot in his stomach, worried that the old man might sniff out something. If he found out about Penny, she might be forced to leave.

The old man was even more ruthless than he was.

"I'll be back in the afternoon."

His tone was nonchalant. After hanging up, he felt the familiar wave of exhaustion.

He sent Maja a text.

"What the hell are you up to?"

Maja's lips twitched as she saw the message on her phone.

"I'm just protecting my rights."

Ian found this amusing. What rights?

What rights did she even have?
