Now the trio had made it to the second floor. The doctor who was leading the way pointed to the sofa next to them and said.

"The operating room for Coco's surgery is just over here; you can sit here and wait."

After he spoke, he turned to Carlene.

"Ms. Shepard, we need about twenty minutes to prep the cat; you guys can..."

Not quite sure how to refer to Ian, Carlene took the opportunity to say, "He's my boyfriend."

The doctor gave a slight smile.

"You guys can sit on the couch in the other room. Please follow me. We'll try to be as quick as possible."

When Carlene referred to Ian as her boyfriend, he shot a glance at Maja.

But Maja was just nervously staring at the operating room, seeming to not care about the title.

He lowered his head and followed Carlene into the other room.

Seeing that there was no interaction between the two, Carlene breathed a sigh of relief.

Once they sat down, she started asking questions again, "Did you notice the marks on Penny's neck? Did she often show up to work with these?"

What she was implying was that Penny and her husband had a great relationship, and no one would infringe on her marriage.

Ian didn't respond and just leaned back in his chair.

"Ian, I'm asking you a question."

Carlene's tone was a bit flirtatious, "Did she often show up to work with these?"

Ian was reminded of their first time together.

There were more marks that time than this time.

"Just once." He responded indifferently, seemingly uninterested in the topic.

But in Carlene's eyes, this was proof of his lack of interest in Maja.

Carlene was completely relieved, but then immediately worried again. Could those two strands of hair have been left by Ian's wife?

"Ian, Holden Raymond probably really wants you and your wife to have kids."

If you mentioned other women, Ian just didn't care, but when you mentioned his wife, he clearly didn't like it.

His eyelids were lowered, and even his eyebrows expressed his distaste for that woman.

Ian stood up at this point, saying he was going to the bathroom.

The pet hospital bathrooms were gender-separated, but only a few meters apart. The men's and women's bathrooms were adjacent, with a communal sink in the middle and a shared faucet.

Maja came out of the bathroom, stood in front of the sink, and squeezed some soap onto her hands.

There are many germs in a pet hospital, so she had to be very careful.

Just as she was lathering up the soap in her hands, a man came out of the men's bathroom, stood next to her, bent down slightly, and squeezed some soap into his hands as well.

Maja noticed that they were very nice hands.

Her heart gave a tiny flutter. She looked up at the mirror in front of her, and sure enough, it was Ian.

He exuded a cool aura with a strong presence. His skin was as delicate as cold porcelain, his hair was glossy, his lips were bright red, and he always seemed to fill the room with his aura.

Maja quickly made sure to scrub each finger. She was about to put her hands under the faucet, but Ian's hand beat her to it.

So the water that flowed down passed through his fingers, and the soap suds from his hands all fell into her palm.

Even though it was cold water, she felt her palm burning.
