Was Ian going to make it back to Greenfield today?

She spotted his ride at Crystalbrook Valley yesterday, but she had to split since her own car needed some TLC at the garage.

Now Maja had set up shop in a hotel room, with no distractions on the horizon. She had carried her meds with her, given the frequent hospital visits she made these days.

But as she strode into the hotel lobby, she was told there had been a mix-up with her reservation and someone else has claimed her room.

"Apologies, ma'am. As a make-good for our mistake, we've upgraded you to the Presidential Suite, on the house."

Maja looked down at the keycard in her hand, a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth. She was on the same floor as Ian, and there were only two Presidential Suites on that floor.

She gave her forehead a rub, and took the card, but said nothing. All she wanted now was some shut-eye.

Once in the elevator, she leaned against the corner, eyes closed. The doors slid open again, and there stood Ian and Jeff.

Neither of them expected to bump into her in the elevator. Ian's brow furrowed, and a glint of something deeper flashed in Jeff's eyes.

The two men stepped in, and Jeff picked up where he left off.

"Ms. Shepard's flight lands at 4 PM. I've already booked her a table for dinner at 5."

Maja only opened her eyes at the familiar voice, and upon seeing the two men, she quietly averted her gaze.

The mirrored walls of the elevator reflected everyone distinctly. Ian stood at the front, but his gaze was fixed on the mirror.

She stood quietly in the corner.Perhaps due to lack of sleep, her eyes were half-closed. She was already a stunner, but her silence made her look like a shattered piece of diamond– lonely and fragile.

Ian couldn’t help but recall the scene from yesterday at Crystalbrook Valley, with her standing outside. The sun was shining brightly then, but she seemed as if she could vanish into it at any moment.

Now, when Maja lowered her gaze, her long, thick eyelashes didn’t even flutter.

The elevator reached the top floor and Ian stepped out first. But as he walked to his room, he heard a soft footstep behind him and knew Maja has followed suit.

A moment of silence, then he asked "You got a problem you can't solve?"

Didn't she go to Samuel for help with her cousin? Didn't Samuel help her out?

Fresh out of the shower, towel-drying his hair, Ian heard a knock on the door.

He paused, a twitch of his lips, but when he opened the door, it was a bellboy with a light breakfast. He stood in the doorway, and the bellboy didn’t dare to step in uninvited.

"Mr. Raymond?"

Ian glanced down the hallway, but the suites were too far apart to see anything.

"Come in."

The bellboy pushed the cart into the room and set up the meal.

"Enjoy your meal, Mr. Raymond."

Then Ian was left alone in the room.

After breakfast, he started working on the documents, but his mind seemed to be elsewhere.
