When Maja showed up, she had hitched a ride with Ian. She had no clue how she'd get back if he didn't stick around.

So, hearing that, she quickly nodded, "Sure."

Fannie saw the two of them chatting and sitting way too close for her liking, so she barged in, shoving Maja to the side.

Maja had no choice but to back off.

Fannie took the drawing from Ian, her nose in the air. "It's just okay, nothing special. This kind of work wouldn't stand out at Arcadia School of Modern Art. I have no idea why the teacher gave it full marks."

Her words were sharp and even belittled Maja right in front of her.

Maja had a favor to ask Felton, so she let Fannie's bratty attitude slide.

In the heavy silence, Ian picked up the conversation. "Penny also graduated from Arcadia School of Modern Art."

This revelation left Fannie red-faced. She hadn't expected this woman to be an alumna too.

Her smile became stiff, clearly pissed off.

"Ian, what's the deal? We haven't seen each other in three years, and you're taking some outsider's side?"

She whined, shaking his arm.

Ian remained expressionless, only raising an eyebrow lazily. He didn't seem to be scolding Fannie at all.

Seeing this, Felton chuckled helplessly. "She's always been this impolite. She's going to get herself in trouble sooner or later. Ian, good thing you're married. Otherwise, she'd latch onto you and never let go."

"No, it doesn't matter whether Ian's married or not. If he really liked that woman, he wouldn't have left for three years. If that woman had any sense, she'd divorce him and stop clinging to him."

Hearing this, Maja's lips twitched. She wasn't mad, just amused.

Fannie realized she had crossed the line and deflated a bit. "Ah, whatever. Ian, stick around for dinner tonight."

Felton had already invited Ian to try some wild game, so he agreed.

"Mr. Felton, sorry for the intrusion."

Fannie's face had darkened considerably when she brought over the coffees. Normally, she'd place one coffee on the left and one on the right. The person on the left would take the left coffee, and the person on the right would take the right coffee.

But Fannie didn't like Maja, so she set the coffees down one in front of the other.

Right then, Ian and Maja both reached out for the same coffee, their fingertips brushing against each other.

This wasn't the first time something like this had happened in the past few days.

When their fingers touched, they both froze.

Ian's hand was slender, and he quickly retracted it, his brow furrowing slightly.
