Dark Revenge Of An Unwanted Wife The Twins Are Not Yours novel Chapter 503

Chapter 503: Perfect. Almost

It had been two weeks since that night—the invasion of the last gang hideout—two weeks since everything with the grey virus and its variant had been wrapped up.

Patients had been released to their families; the ban on large gatherings had been lifted; and no other individuals had come in for treatment.

It had also been two weeks since the president awarded Athena with a national honor—adding to her growing collection—and since Aiden was promoted to Head of the Secret Security Service.

So much for not working for the government again, after the virus issue. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Ewan’s company was back to normal, thriving again. Her own companies’ merger had been announced, and the rumors had shifted from the grey virus to her possible announcement as the heir of the Thorne Empire.

Everything seemed perfect.

Perfect because—Athena looked at the new simple diamond ring around her third finger—Ewan had proposed to her two nights ago during dinner at the Italian restaurant that was now a hot cake. They had kept their promise to its owner, Dario, whom Athena suspected had taken quite a liking to her friend, Areso.

Perfect because Ewan had made sure she felt over the moon every single day. Her children were in good health—thriving—and even trying to make friends with Cairo, whom her grandmother had been talking about adopting.

Cairo, who still hadn’t cracked a smile since that night—a quiet reminder to Athena that not all loose ends had been tied.

Still, she laughed freely now, and she enjoyed Ewan’s ministrations on her body, even though he was still hesitant to cross that threshold both of them longed to drown in.

Albeit, there was a knot in her belly, one that tightened sometimes when she remembered Kael—remembered that he was still missing, and so was the chief perpetrator of the crime.

The president had given a long interview last week after a meeting with her and her crew–-to set the facts straight about the virus before presenting them to the public. At the end, he had admonished everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement.

So far, there had been no real reports—unless you count the false ones from people hoping to earn some quick money.

She sighed, closing the document before her on the desk. Her eyes drifted toward the clock.

Already 11 a.m.?

She had to start moving toward her grandfather’s company—the announcement was taking place today.

She had spoken to Herbert concerning her position at the hospital a few days ago. The latter had reminded her of the contract she’d signed, requesting her to wait while he searched for a replacement.

She had accepted his request, understanding his viewpoint. After all, she had only given a notice.

Hopefully, he would find someone soon.

She had, however, recommended Kent to him—the one who had operated on her when the tracker was found inside her—Ewan’s good friend. She believed Kent would be a good replacement.

Tweaking her lips in thought, Athena got to her feet and straightened invisible creases away from her penciled navy-blue skirt. She grabbed her coat, her handbag, and started out of the office.

Her phone pinged with a message from her grandmother, and she knew immediately that the meeting was about to start.

"I’ll soon be there, grandma..." she typed out quickly, about to reach the door when it suddenly opened—letting in Herbert.

"Herbert, hey... good afternoon."

As she greeted, a smile formed on her lips, though her brows furrowed in curiosity. The last time they had spoken, he was halfway across the continent.

"Athena, I see you’re already heading to the board’s meeting?" Herbert said, stepping inside.

Athena nodded. "Is that why you’re back so soon?"
