Chelsea was freed. She hated Grandma May so much because she would not have been beaten by Liberty if this damned old lady had not appeared out of the blue.
Grandma May pulled Liberty up and sat down on the sofa. She glanced at Chelsea arrogantly and said coldly, “You really redefined my understanding of human nature. Don’t talk to me. Otherwise, people will think I’m talking to a pig.”
Chelsea was so angry that she wanted to rush over again.
“Chelsea.”
Hank grabbed his sister, who might not have heard what Grandma May said earlier.
“She’s Zachary’s grandmother.”
Chelsea suddenly recalled Zachary’s stony face and eagle-like eyes. She retreated and shoved her arrogance aside.
“Old Mrs. York…”
Mrs. Brown said, “This is between Hank and Liberty, so let’s not butt in, okay?”
“I didn’t butt in. Did you see me butting in?” Grandma May retorted.
In Grandma May’s eyes, she only kicked them and did not butt in.
Mrs. Brown was speechless by Grandma May’s denial.
“I just think that you’re too involved as a mother-in-law. Also, your daughter has her own family, yet she wants to boss her younger brother and sister-in-law around. She has been the one sowing discord between them, right? How did you raise your daughter? Do you have a grudge against your in-laws? Is that why you wanted your daughter to marry into your in-law’s family?”
Mrs. Brown wanted to get some ice cubes for her daughter’s face too but found that there were no ice cubes left.
Mrs. Lane had given them all to Liberty.
The Browns realized that Grandma May was a fighter but was old, so they became cowardly as they were afraid she would pass out on the floor and blame it on them.
Mr. Brown cleared his throat and said, “Old lady, we’re also disheartened that Hank and Liberty ended up like this. I scolded my son, but they still insisted on getting a divorce. We came here today to talk about the divorce terms. Sonny is my only grandson who shares my last name, so we’ll never hurt him. We were just picking him up to see him.”
What he implied was that they should not talk about Sonny and start talking about the divorce.
Grandma May patted the back of Liberty’s hand and said softly, “Seren and Zack went to look for Sonny. Don’t worry. Everything will be alright.”
