Yuan didn’t respond right away. Instead, he turned to Yan Hara and asked calmly, "May I?"

Understanding his intent, Yan Hara nodded and stood up, silently giving him her seat. The others watched in surprise, for her actions clearly indicated that Yuan held more status than she did.
