Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 606

Then again, if the drugs had such severe side effects and were so harmful, how could Hulda not have known? If she truly loved her daughter, she never would have hidden Shane's real gender. And from what I've seen, Shane's relationship with Hulda was far from the loving mother-and-child picture everyone painted.

"Lottie, why the sudden interest in your Uncle Shane?" Sean asked, looking up at her with a hint of confusion.

"Oh, I just heard that he and Wesley have a rather… unique relationship, and it made me curious," Charlotte explained quickly.

He paused, his gaze drifting to the leafless tree outside the window. "With so much happening in the Rayburn family right now," he sighed, "I can't help but worry."

Charlotte lowered her eyes and said nothing more.

Shane didn't hold a large funeral for Hulda. After the cremation, she was buried immediately. Aside from Mr. Rayburn and Quincy, the rest of the Rayburns attended the brief graveside service. Charlotte stood beside Wesley and her father, and like everyone else, she paid her respects.

As they were about to leave the cemetery, they ran into Quincy, whom they hadn't seen in ages.

"Quincy?" Susy said, surprised. Sean and Caleb both turned to look.

Quincy just scoffed. "She's dead. Who are you putting on a show for? When she was alive, none of you wished her well."

"What's that supposed to mean, Quincy?" Susy frowned.

"You should ask Caleb and Sean what I mean. With Kate gone, they know exactly what's happening." Quincy was clearly alluding to the family's power struggle. With Kate dead and Hulda out of the picture, two competitors had been eliminated.

"Look at you, playing the grieving son now," Sean said, utterly exasperated. "You were the one who pushed her into the spotlight in the first place, and now you're pretending to be the good guy while we're the villains?" It was astounding that they could come from the same mother, yet Quincy turned out to be so shameless and cruel.

Quincy's fists clenched, his face turning dark.
