Ice flooded Natalie’s veins, her gaze turning sharp and frigid. He hadn't lied to her; it really was Victoria's scheme.
A tight, aching lump swelled in her throat, unbidden.
Terence watched Natalie. Even though she was pretending not to care, how could she not be shaken inside?
Angela said gleefully, “Natalie, it looks like your ex-husband never betrayed you. And he was even bitten by a venomous snake for you. He's in the hospital right now. Aren't you going to go be with him?”
When Victoria heard this, she finally understood that her son had been bitten by a snake to save Natalie.
He had told her he just sprained his ankle.
“What? My son was bitten by a venomous snake while saving Natalie? He told me he just sprained his ankle. He's really protecting her, willing to give up his own life.”
Victoria said angrily, “My son risked his life for you, and you're not even at the hospital with him? Even if there were misunderstandings in the past, he was bitten by a snake saving your life! Doesn't the fact that he saved your life wipe the slate clean?”
Victoria nudged Hanley, who said pitifully, “Mommy, Daddy was bitten by a snake for you. Is he going to die? Mommy, please come back. Come be with me and Daddy, okay? We’ll make it up to you, I promise.”
At that moment, all eyes turned to Natalie. Her voice was like shards of ice, her stare cutting through every single one of them as she said, “You're all putting on quite a show to get me and Darren back together. But I'm sorry, I'm not an actor you can direct. I have my own life to live, I won't be part of your drama or let you guilt-trip me into anything!”
