Mrs. Lockwood knew Angela had been infatuated with Terence since they were children. She also knew Terence didn’t reciprocate her feelings and only saw her as a sister.
She found Angela’s frankness charming and, not wanting to see her hurt, had introduced her to several fine young men. But Angela had turned her nose up at all of them, playing such cruel pranks that several ended up in the hospital. Eventually, they all blacklisted her.
Beautiful women were deadly, and it was better to stay alive.
If Simon wasn't afraid to die, he was welcome to try. Angela would certainly put him in his place.

Inside the room.
Natalie was leaning over to administer Terence’s acupuncture when he spoke. “Are you going to get so angry that you accidentally kill me with those needles?”
Natalie looked at him, stunned. Was Terence joking with her?
“I wouldn’t go that far,” Natalie said coolly. “I wouldn’t ruin my professional reputation over you.”
Natalie valued her name as a doctor. She wouldn't claim to be a saint, but her skills were excellent. Why would she tarnish her reputation for him?
Just as she was about to insert a needle, Terence grabbed her slender wrist. “You can ask me anything you want. After all, we’ve been… intimate.”
Terence’s words sent a jolt through Natalie’s heart, and her breathing quickened. So much had happened recently that she had almost forgotten about that night.
They were both adults, and she had planned to simply forget it. But Terence just had to bring up the one thing she wanted to avoid.
“What intimacy? I don’t remember anything.”
A blush crept up Natalie’s face. Despite her efforts to remain composed, her panic was evident. Terence put on an aggrieved expression. “You don’t remember? So you’re not going to take responsibility?”
Terence stared at her intently, and his gaze made her flustered. That night, she had been drunk and had forced herself on him. How was she supposed to take responsibility for that?
With great resolve, Natalie took out her wallet, pulled out all the cash inside, and stuffed it into Terence’s hand. “I know it’s not enough,” she said, “but I’ll work hard to make it up to you.”
Terence was speechless. He hadn’t expected Natalie to shove a wad of cash at him. What was this supposed to mean? This was her idea of taking responsibility for that night?
