Castellanos - A Flame That Never Dies novel Chapter 2

What was a Lycan doing here? I quickly turn around and blend with the humans while masking my scent. Trying to rub their scent on my body as was Harmony. Her eyes flickered to mine as I did the same.

Now what?-

It was seconds before he would notice our presence if he hadn’t already. Maybe he was from the palace. Or just maybe he was no one.

I saw Harmony flicker her eyes to the emergency exit and I nod my head. Slowly without causing any alarm, I got off the human that was rubbing himself on my body. I was beyond disgusted but that was the only way that I could hide from his eyes.

We finally made our way to the door and pulled the handle down, pushing the door open. The chilly air hits my bare skin as I walked out the door. Harmony walks beside me, and we start to bolt our way into the dark alleyway. The soft clicks of our heels sounded like a drum roll on this silent night.

“Off to somewhere, ladies.”

The voice of a man makes our footsteps halt. But it wasn’t just any man. I know it was him. The Lycan.

I look at Harmony who was already looking at me, her lips sealed tightly. I clenched my own fists before I turn around to face him. His light eyes shine even in this dark night. A smirk was clear on his face as he slowly made his way towards us and stood a few inches away.

He turns to Harmony as he bows slightly. “Miss Artino.”

Displeasure paints Harmony’s face upon hearing that name and she turns away from him. Ignorant to this, he just turns to face me and bows again. “Miss Castellanos.” He then stands straight but his eyes stays on mine.

“We have been looking all over for you. I just didn’t expect to find you today. Right here.” He gives a loop side smile. “Not when I was out to have fun.”

I fold my arms across my chest and lean on one leg. “I’m sorry that you had a hard time looking for me. But I never asked anyone to look for me.” My eyes grew hard as I looked at his still smiling face. “I wasn’t lost.” I grit the words out.

He just chuckles lightly as he shakes his head. “But he thinks otherwise.”

My heart sinks and my mouth open up but no words come through. “You know he has turned the palace upside down. He has been like a madman, trying to find you, Miss Castellanos.” The smile finally leaves his face as he becomes more serious.

My heart tightens as my eyes refuses to meet his. I look away from him and try to act unaffected by the information he was providing. I kept my face void of the turmoil my heart was going through. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

He huffs a breath as he looks up to the dark sky before his eyes fall back on me. “Of course, you do.” He starts to take slow steps towards me, but I hold my ground as I stand straight. “I’m sorry, Miss Castellanos, but you are going to have to come with me.”

He extends one hand to grab mine, but Harmony manages to hold onto his hand. He turns to look at her with narrowed eyes and opens his mouth to speak only to be stopped by her.

“You didn’t see us today.” Harmony whispers.

“You never saw any Lycans tonight. You came here to have fun and you did just that.” Her eyes go darker as she holds his stare. She pulls his hand down, so he was leaning his body down.

She moves her head up and leans forward to whisper in his ear. “Now you will head right back and continue with your night.”

She leans back as she once again looks into his eyes with her lips curved upward. “Forget you ever saw us.” Her whisper calm, almost mute. The Lycan’s eyes stays wide open as his body turns around and he starts moving towards the emergency exit door that we came through, and he soon disappears inside.

“Let’s go.” Harmony tugs my hand and we both head into the alleyway. We reach the road where we parked our car without any more interruptions, and we hit the road without wasting another second.

I’m going to have to ask Harmony to cut it short. I close my eyes one more time and relax my body. And when I trust myself to not burst into flames, I open my eyes and paddled to the shore.

I couldn’t control my gift as I once used to. One thought of him. Just a mention of him, was all it took to heat up my body. And now it seems I can burn like a torch too.

It was a good thing that I chose to stay closer to the water. It was the only way to tame the blazing being that I was turning into.

I finally got to the beach and walked towards the road where Harmony was still waiting for me, leaning on the side of the car with her arms crossed over. Upon seeing me, she opened the back door and got a shawl, and ran towards me.

“Are you okay?” She wraps the shawl over my naked bod. Seems like the fire had completely burned it down.

I nod my head and hold onto the shawl, fixing it so it covered my body more. It was a good thing that it was still quite early and there was no one around at the moment.

She wrapped her arm around me and we both walk towards the car, not speaking a single word about it. I had a feeling she had a hint of what the Lycan was talking about although not the whole story.

But she didn’t question me. She never did and I was glad she didn’t. Because I never wanted a reminder of why I had left. Who I left.

My mind and heart now calmed, wonders back to the time when I walked away from the life I had dreamed to live with. Tears threatens to fall but I inhale deeply and close my eyes.

For tears are luxury for a sinner like me.
