Immersed in his work, Matthew could almost ignore Eviette's presence.
Eviette rose from the couch and approached the desk, her affectionate gaze fixed on Matthew. "I know everything about you."
Putting on his gold-rimmed glasses, Matthew flipped through the files on the desk with his slender, jade-like fingers, completely focused and disregarding her.
"You're being targeted, and I'm worried. But I know if I ask you, you won't tell me why. So... so I had someone investigate it." Eviette nervously picked at the corner of the desk with her delicate fingers.
Normally, she remained calm and composed in any situation, but when she was facing Matthew, she couldn't maintain her tranquility.
Matthew's relaxed brows furrowed slightly. After a moment, he closed the file, looked up at Eviette, and asked, "And what did they find?"
"The result... the result is that your company is being targeted because of Veronica's ambiguous relationship with Xavier Crawford. It has angered his wife, which led to the retaliation."
Her words were clearly pointed.
Matthew pretended not to understand and inquired, "What are you trying to say?"
Despite his handsome face appearing calm and his tone indifferent, Eviette could sense his intense dissatisfaction.
"Matt." Eviette pursed her red lips, struggled internally for a moment, and then blurted out, "Without her, you wouldn't be in this mess today. Why can't you let go?"
In the end, she wanted to use this opportunity to persuade them to get a divorce. Deep down, Eviette felt that Veronica marrying Matthew was out of her league. She didn't think she was good enough for him!
"You gave me a choice. All I did was make the right one."
"You..." Eviette was at a loss for words. Calling her an outsider was far more devastating and weighty than a thousand words. She never thought that Veronica would hold such significance in Matthew's heart.
"Have you ever considered what would happen if you provoked me?" Eviette walked up behind him, forced to say, "Once I withdraw my investment and cancel the cooperation with Metric Technology, your company might declare bankruptcy."
All of Metric Technology's major partners had terminated their cooperation. The largest and most significant partner was Eviette's company.
If Shepherd Star Group withdrew its investment, it would be like the last straw that broke Metric Technology's back.
