Bumpkin’s Rich Handsome Husband novel Chapter 1300

"What's the matter?"

Noticing that Veronica appeared different, Xavier approached her and inquired about the situation.

Veronica still kept her head down as she observed the ground. However, she replied, "It's nothing, really."

"Did someone make a move?"

Even though Veronica tried to hide it, Xavier could still sense something from her reaction.

Since Xavier had already deduced the situation, Veronica didn't feel the need to hide anymore. She nodded and didn't respond to his question.

Then, she continued to examine the footprints on the ground, hoping to find some clues from the scene.

Xavier crouched down and entered the tent.

When he saw the two knife marks on the thin blanket with his own eyes, his heart sank and skipped a beat.

He might despise Matthew, but he didn't want to see anything bad happen to Veronica under any circumstances.

Emerging from the tent, Xavier noticed a few people approaching them from a distance. He immediately lowered his voice and cautioned, "They're back. It's better if they remain unaware of what happened last night."

"Okay."

Veronica nodded and stood up straight. She seemed lost in thought as she glanced at Nelson's tent with squinted eyes.

"We found a few bird eggs. Xavier, Miss Murphy, do boil some water and cook the eggs," Liam instructed.

"How can we cook them if we don't have a pot?"

Veronica kept what happened last night to herself and instead joked with Liam. "There is no pot in the all-powerful backpack."

She then pointed at the bird eggs in Liam's hand. "Let's eat them raw."

Given the harsh conditions, consuming the eggs raw was the best option.

"Veronica makes a valid point. I'm for it," Nelson chimed in.

Zac frowned slightly, feeling a bit disgusted. "We're not in a hurry to climb the mountain, so why subject ourselves to this torture? It's still early. We might as well take it slow. Don't you have a saying in Destor, 'the mantis stalking the cicada is unaware of the oriole behind?'"

In other words, it wasn't easy to catch the prey.

It might be better to let others go and catch the prey first, allowing them to fight and compete with each other. Then, after everyone had exhausted their energy, they could reap the benefits.

"Master, good morning. Here, this is for you."

On the other side, Matthew and Eleanor were in the same group, while the other three people were strangers to Matthew.

But from yesterday afternoon until now, he had realized that those three people seemed more like bodyguards for Eleanor.

Early in the morning, the three of them prepared wild fruits and grilled fish, which they handed to Eleanor.

After Eleanor expressed her gratitude, she immediately brought the food to Matthew, appeasing Matthew with the food someone else had prepared for her.

"Thank you."

Matthew didn't refuse and took the two wild pears, biting into them and chewing.

After entering the mountains, there was no food other than hardtack.

Compared to hardtack, Matthew preferred to eat some wild fruits.

"Hehe, no need to be polite with me, Master." Eleanor walked over to Matthew's side and leaned against a nearby tree trunk. "It's the least I can do."

As she spoke, she glanced at the tree behind Matthew, where a green snake was coiled on a branch, flicking its tongue out.
