Xavier's words were partially true.
He did worry about Antheena, as she was his wife, and she treated him well.
But he was more concerned that Antheena would collude with others to target Veronica.
Listening to Xavier's words, Antheena was momentarily stunned. Even her shimmering eyes were filled with inner conflict.
"Please just listen to me once, okay?"
Xavier softly pleaded.
"No!"
In the end, Antheena rejected Xavier's suggestion. "If it's so dangerous, I want to fight alongside you. If you choose to withdraw, I will withdraw as well."
"That's impossible!" Xavier's eyes were resolute, "Matthew Kings must die!"
The deep hatred between him and Matthew had to be resolved.
Antheena reached out and held Xavier's hand upon hearing those words. "Alright. I will accompany you."
As her slightly cool hand grasped his palm, Xavier's heart was filled with mixed emotions.
Antheena's eyes, exuding an occidental charm, were brimming with deep affection. Her golden long hair was elegantly tied up, and a natural curly strand at her temple swayed in the wind, making her look incredibly beautiful.
With her tall figure and graceful posture, she possessed an innate elegance. It was as though she was the queen of elves emerging from the forest, captivating anyone who laid eyes on her.
However, Xavier's heart was completely occupied by Veronica. No matter how much Antheena loved him and treated him well, his heart could only fit one person.
Once known as the playboy of Bloomstead, Xavier was truly a romantic at heart.
"Antheena, let me say it again. Before you came to the hidden clan with me, your father repeatedly reminded me to protect you. You should know that he wouldn't allow you to take such risks. Also, I don't need your protection."
He once again tried to dissuade Antheena, hoping that she wouldn't be too persistent.
The outcome...
It was evident.
"Number 5, Number 17, Number 583, Number 994, Number 234."
The loudspeaker in the training ground continued announcing the numbers, summoning the holders of those numbers to come up on stage.
It was then that Veronica learned that a wristwatch was the only personal item allowed to be brought up the mountain.
As they needed to check the time after entering the mountain, wristwatches were not restricted.
However, the medicine given by Crayson could not be brought up the mountain. The miniature translating headset, too, was also prohibited.
Even if it could be brought up the mountain, it would be useless without a signal.
After the inspection confirmed that no other items were being carried, the participants could proceed to collect the backpacks distributed to everyone.
The backpacks contained camping essentials, signal flares for distress calls, and other supplies.
After receiving her backpack, Veronica turned to glance back at the training ground. She could feel Matthew's intense gaze from a distance.
"Let's go," Xavier reminded from behind.
Veronica nodded and turned around, walking forward with the heavy backpack on her back alongside Xavier.
Up ahead, Zac and Liam were engaged in conversation, while Veronica walked with Xavier. The limping man, on the other hand, walked alone.
