Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 321

When Marguerite got a call from Chuck, she was in the middle of a meeting at LuxeScents International.

Knowing it was Frederick who wanted to see her, she hastily wrapped up the meeting, hopped into her car and sped off towards the Thunderbolt Building.

Truth be told, she was unsure about how to face him.

Especially after last night when he had blatantly ignored her. Even a fleeting glance seemed to be filled with the cold indifference of a stranger.

This realization stung Marguerite, reminding her that their relationship was over and there was no reason to continue the torment. Therefore, she shouldn’t go and see him. Yet, she was out of control.

The Thunderbolt Building wasn't too far from LuxeScents International and Marguerite arrived quickly. As she walked into the building, she saw many familiar faces. Those were all colleagues who had fought alongside Frederick, and even the receptionist seemed strangely familiar!

No wonder Frederick could make a comeback in just three years. Even though he had given up the Winston Group, he'd taken most of the connections with him.

The receptionist recognized Marguerite immediately, her expression a mix of surprise and awkwardness.

She stood up, her voice hesitant, "Ms. Lockwood?”

Marguerite nodded slightly, “Frederick asked me to pick something up.”

“Ms. Lockwood, do... do you have an appointment?”

A hint of disappointment flickered in Marguerite’s eyes. Right, she needed to book an appointment to see him now.

Marguerite forced a smile, “No.”

“Well, if you could just wait a moment, I’ll give him a call.”

The receptionist quickly dialed an extension, mumbling a few words that Marguerite couldn't make out.

As the day was about to end, Marguerite realized that she hadn't even had lunch.

She was starving and the sudden drop in temperature in the lobby made her shiver.

Marguerite asked the receptionist for a hot cup of water to warm her hands. Seeing the receptionist dressed lightly, she couldn't help but ask, “Isn't it too cold for you with the heating off and you dressed so lightly?”

The receptionist rubbed her hands and sniffled, “I don't know what's wrong. It was warm this morning, but the temperature suddenly dropped. Maybe the heating's not working.”

The heating's not working? It dawned on Marguerite. Frederick was meticulous in his work and would have ensured immediate repair of any fault. There was no way the heating could be broken for an entire day.

Frederick was doing this on purpose! The depth of Frederick's hatred for her was crystal clear to Marguerite. Her betrayal had left her with no grounds to fight back, she could only endure it.

But she didn't want the other people to suffer because of her, so she promptly said, “Tell Chuck I'll come to collect the stuff in a couple of days. I'm leaving now.”
