Marguerite's room was closely guarded round the clock by burly bodyguards, but Maurice's room was not. In addition, next to the air-conditioning unit hanging outside Maurice's room, there was a narrow, iron staircase.
Marguerite quickly made her way to Maurice's room, scrambled through the window and down the staircase, successfully leaving the mansion with ease.
She took back alleys to exit the gated community, hailed a yellow cab on the street, and sped towards the airport.
Emerald Meadows was close to the airport; the cab ride took only about twenty minutes.
Checking the time, Marguerite realized the security checks were about to begin.
Anxiety washed over her. All she could hope for was that Frederick would delay his departure.
Meanwhile, at the security checkpoint, the loudspeaker was already announcing the commencement of security checks for passengers bound for Vespera, yet Frederick was still seated in the VIP lounge.
Robert, who bought his ticket using his ID, was worried that their father would come looking for them and was hastily urging Frederick to leave.
Jocelyn gave Robert a meaningful glance, whispering, "You go ahead, we'll catch up."
Robert nodded and walked towards the security check.
Jocelyn gently held Frederick's hand, her gaze soft, "Are you waiting for her?"
Frederick's face was expressionless, but his sharp eyes betrayed a mix of complex emotions.
He responded coldly, "No."
Jocelyn stood up, her purse in hand, "Good, let's get through security."
Frederick sat in silence. Jocelyn looked at him with pity. This man was her son. He could put on a tough exterior, but as his mother, how could she not see through him?
Finally, she spotted the man who had haunted her dreams at the first-class security checkpoint.
There was hardly a queue. Jocelyn was in front of Frederick, and the security personnel were verifying her identity.
Frederick was behind Jocelyn, the last in line.
Through the crowd, Marguerite saw Frederick looking around, seemingly searching for something, but he never saw her.
Her tears fell once again at the sight of him. A wave of emotion surged from her chest to her head. Sobbing, Marguerite ran towards him.
She didn't know if Frederick would let her leave with him, but that no longer mattered.
What was important was that she needed to tell him that she loved him.
