(BL) Hunting The Field Guide novel Chapter 492

Chapter 492: He’s some kind of a doctor, right?

Kellen knew he was going in and out of consciousness, mostly because he would be staring at Rhys’ chest, feel him talking, and then suddenly they would be 100 paces away from where they last were and Kellen had no memory of it.

He was fighting against it, and knew that Taylor was telling him to fight it. She was fading in and out of his vision, but her expression was tight. She was clearly worried about him, and there was a large part of Kellen that wanted to tell them that they were making a fuss over him for nothing. He was fine in the grand scheme of things. The others were more important.

There was a small, small part of him that was happy that they were viewing him first. That they were taking care of him first. It was small, but it felt watered as Rhys entered into the Saturn Guild’s area and rushed him towards the medical tent. Kellen was barely able to catch a glimpse of everyone else before he was shoved into a part of the tent that hadn’t been there before.

Kellen was fairly certain that a separate back area hadn’t existed the last time, especially not one that was as big as it was. It wasn’t like Taylor had converted her sleeping area into a spot for Kellen to live, it was more like her spot hadn’t ever existed and now there was a separate area, about the size of a room back at the Guild, meant just for Kellen.

He wasn’t used to this kind of treatment, especially on the front lines.

He sat in a daze, only a light buzzing from the others able to get through as Rhys placed him down on the bed, not leaving his side. His hand was on his back, not holding his hand because he looked like he was going to be sick if he did that. Kellen got a brief glance into the room beyond his before the privacy curtain fell and he could see everyone else there. Bree was lying down, and there were several medical professionals moving around the group.

Then it was gone from his view and Kellen had to focus on Taylor. She raised her hand, snapping it in his field of vision to get his attention. She began to run him through the regular tests before she even began touching him with her powers. She didn’t want to mess him up without knowing what was wrong with him.

Kellen had several tubes of blood taken, Rhys at his side the whole time while Taylor poked and prodded.

Everything was thrown into more chaos when Rhys tensed, his hand on his back telling Kellen that something was happening that he couldn’t hear. Then the privacy flap was thrown to the side and Sakura was there, with a pale looking Carlos and a grim faced Isabella.

Kellen felt his eyes widen at the sight of the other man. He hadn’t thought that he would be here, especially right now. He was supposed to be working on things for the second round of a rescue mission, but one look at Kellen and Carlos looked grimly determined.

The fool grabbed the needle that had been used to take the blood from Kellen and stuck it in his mouth, his eyes glowing an inhuman purply-pink shade that made a shiver run down Kellen’s spine. He knew that Taylor was yelling at him, so were the other medical professionals but Sakura stood behind him like a damn bouncer.

It didn’t help that Rhys wasn’t doing anything either, and Kellen had a feeling that Rhys knew that she was coming. He might have even requested it. Kellen blinked a few times, and even he knew it was too slow.

It all came to a head where everyone got upset besides Isabella and Kellen when Carlos lunged forward and licked the wound on Kellen’s face. Rhys tightened, Taylor yelled, the other medical professionals were upset and even Sakura tried to yank him back.

Kellen just watched on, mildly amused as the man licked his lips before he turned and left the tent. Kellen was sure he shouted something over his shoulder as he left, since Taylor turned her gaze back to him looking exasperated. She hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting Carlos before, and Kellen felt his lips turn up slightly before he started laughing. He couldn’t hear himself, didn’t know how loud he was, but he couldn’t help it.

That was so unhinged that he had nothing to say, good or bad. Rhys turned his head back, tilting it up towards the other man so that he could check his eye, the eye that Kellen couldn’t see out of. Rhys looked ill, upset, and Carlos had probably made it worse.

Taylor tugged on his hand, drawing Kellen’s attention and she pointed to a shower that was set up in the corner. It was clear she was asking if he could do it on his own, but Kellen knew better.

Rhys was there, shoving everyone who wasn’t Taylor out of the room as he undressed Kellen. He was methodical, not taking his time like he would under any other situation. Kellen wasn’t sure what Carlos had said, but Kellen had a feeling that getting a shower wasn’t something that she had planned as the next step.

He was sure more bloodwork, or something else was planned. Maybe she was stalling for time?

Kellen couldn’t know, only knew that Taylor and Rhys were talking to each other. It was in the way that they hid their lips from Kellen, as if they thought he could read them so easily.

Kellen didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but he was basically high right now. He couldn’t read lips right now. He was having a hard time staying awake right now.

Taylor gave him some privacy as Rhys helped him clean up. There was a little stool that Rhys had Kellen sit down on, and had Taylor hold Kellen’s damaged hand out of the way of the water and soap. Kellen just sat there, like a doll, letting the others take care of him while he focused on staying awake.
