"You do enjoy the cold, it seems," Bianca said, taking another sip of warm tea. The saccharine liquid slipped down her throat, melting into her stomach.
Her delicate red tongue licked the corner of her stained lip, while her sharp gaze was fixed on the person sitting in front of her.
This type of Xion didn’t look like a danger at all, or rather he looked like a prize to win after the threatening ordeal.
How sweet.
"It’s fine, I guess. Though I do prefer the sun," Xion answered.
Bianca was stabbing her fork into the pastry. It easily broke under her pressure. Sweet things were just like that, easy to soften and easy to melt in one’s mouth.
"How are the things in the inner side of the castle, if I may ask? Is there anyone else living there with you?"
What Xion heard was, ’Are there any other concubines or lovers besides him?’
Though he suspected she had taken a liking to Darius, wasn’t this a bit too much to ask so directly?
"I enjoy the quiet," Xion replied with a tight smile. "So, Darius won’t let random people into our wing."
Bianca pretended not to catch the jab as she chewed on the soft dessert before dabbing the corner of her lip with a napkin. A perfect noble.
"I’ve heard His Grace, the Archduke, enjoys winter as well. They say it’s the season that reflects his heart the best. Cold and strong."
Xion blinked slowly.
That didn’t sound like his Darius at all. Sure, his lover was sometimes, cold-faced and often wouldn’t speak much.
But this is the same man who warms my cold feet with his own hands.
Still, he offered a mild nod. "Yes, I suppose that sounds like something they’d say... After all, they don’t know him as closely as I do."
Bianca’s lips twitched.
Undeterred, she leaned forward just enough for her dress’s neckline to shift a little. Like an innocent tease.
"That may be the reason perhaps. But there should be more interesting things to enjoy in the north, no?" Something that wasn’t the Archduke.
"Like?"
"Oh," the lady rested her chin on her hand before blinking her long lashes at Xion. "Like the color of the sky that matches my clothes?"
Her beauty was on full display, waiting for Xion to ogle.
However, when had the silly healer ever looked at women with such a gaze?
If there was someone who could make him flustered and also tempted to take another glance, it was the perfectly shaped abdomen muscles of his husband.
Ah, there should be another thing added to the list that only Darius made Xion feel to this extent.
Irritation. Well, it was more like jealousy but would the silly healer think that deeply? Of course not.
Hence, when Xion noticed how the sky really matched her clothes.
"I have this," he said, shrugging his shoulders to motion at the warm cloth draped over him. He did so while subtly hiding the collar of his blue shirt underneath.
"But aren’t you cold?" No, honestly. If you want to seduce Darius, go bother him. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
There was no point in talking or making him angry on purpose. He didn’t have the kind of energy to go and fight with Darius over such a thing.
What if she fell sick? Xion wondered to himself. Would he be blamed for that?
And he didn’t want to share his own cover with her.
"You," she said, her red eyes gleaming like embers in the darkest nights. "I am matching with you, your Grace."
Excuse-mew?
"...You dressed up for me?" he asked again, voice climbing in foreboding.
"Yes," she said softly. "I wanted you to notice me. You have always been a person I look up to, Divine healer."
"Oh no," he said, horrified. "You... Don’t you like..." Darius?
