Begin Again novel Chapter 112

Days after the incident with Lucy, the mark on Eden's face was gone, but Liam's rage still burned bright and hot, more so when he thought back to their session with Linda and how broken she was when she spoke about the assault.

No matter how hard he tried to distract himself, nothing would soothe his fury.

He thought if HR gave everyone a warning, he'd be okay, and once the chats were gone, he'd be happy.

But three days on, Liam was nowhere close to any feelings of contentment.

He wanted vengeance.

And blood.

Lucy's blood.

He was running on three hours of sleep and not in the right frame of mind to be making decisions of any kind, especially ones that would impact someone's future so drastically. Backing the hell off was the best thing to do. But he picked up his office phone anyway and called Gibby in.

She knocked once and let herself in. "Yes, Mr Anderson?"

"Bring Lucy Edison in. I need to deal with her."

His assistant thought it was a terrible idea, and he should let it go since Eden was settling in okay, and there had been no further incidents. "HR's dealt with the issue, and the chats are gone, sir. Let's keep the peace."

Liam was all for keeping the peace. But after he had dealt with Lucy. If he didn't set an example, if he didn't draw the line somewhere, things would spiral out of control, and who knew how far Matthew's PA would go? Next time she might not just stop with a few slaps.

No. He couldn't let this shit slide.

"Mr Anderson, I think—" Gibby tried one more time to get through to him, but Liam wouldn't change his mind.

"Did I ask for your opinion, Gibby?" He demanded, his face dark with anger, his eyebrows fused in a severe frown.

"No, Sir." She shook her head quickly and stepped out of his office. She knew better than to push when he was in one of his broody moods.

While he waited for Lucy to grace him with her presence, Liam checked his schedule for tomorrow and read through the endless emails piling up in his inbox.

There were at least a hundred unread, all claiming to be important. Deadlines that were long past due. Outstanding feedback on project proposals. Missing signatures from important contracts.

Liam closed his laptop without responding to a single one of them.

He would deal with all of them after he handled Lucy, he thought, as he leaned back in his chair and linked his hands behind his head, yawning loudly.

The door had barely shut when Matthew shot in, his eyes burning furiously. "You fired my assistant? We talked about this! You agreed you wouldn't run interference."

"I never agreed to shit!" Liam raged back.

"Fuck, Liam, this is a case of unfair dismissal waiting to happen. You can't just fire people!"

"She assaulted someone; that's grounds for dismissal!"

"Not after HR already gave her a warning! Fucking hell, rescind your instructions now!"

"No!" Liam insisted, refusing to bend to his cousin's will.

"You!" Matthew pointed his index finger at him, frowning indignantly.

But Liam jerked his head at the door. He was done talking about Lucy. If she wanted to file a case of unfair dismissal against him and the company, he would gladly take her on.

"This isn't over!" Matthew snarled over his shoulder as he left the office, slamming the door hard behind him.
